Sparty guards had one of their best games of the year today.   Has the switch been flipped?

Hopefully they can move up to an 8 or 9 seed.

If a team's swag is at Costco, it's pretty much a lock for the national title.

That's why I just placed a huge bet on UNC-Charlotte.

I never got that hire from Maryland’s standpoint.  Willard did fine at Seton Hall.  It was a bad program when he got there and did a lot of good but it sure felt like he had a ceiling.  Competitive in the Big East with maybe a few teams that could make a nice March run.

Though, their biggest problem is, they’re  miscast in the Big 18.  They have no identity.  Virginia usurped them as the ACC Tobacco Road foil

Yes, because the one thing professional sports doesn't have is pageantry.  ::)

If there is one thing that the NIL era has taught us is should be that people don't care if student athletes aren't amateurs. Student athletes can be employees and receive their scholarship plus a stipend. They can be part of a union where a CBA outlines issues like compensation, transfer policy, that's a negotiation between two parties.

And you're right. I don't care one bit if this move means the entire Northeast Conference goes away.

Marquette employs a bunch of students. Marquette employs a bunch of students that receive significant scholarships. (teaching assistants, research assistants) I have no idea why this would be fundamentally different.

Totally ignores the downstream effects. Title IX will make this a crap show. Sports would be slashed. This would be catastrophic for Olympic sports, not because of the professionalism but because our college sports are the pipeline for the USOC.

There are roughly 200,000 scholarship athletes in the country. That would probably be cut by 75%, conservatively.

If you're in the "I only care about my interests" camp, that's you're prerogative. I think it's an pretty boy way to go about life, the people that vote against school referendums as soon as it doesn't impact them, but it sounds like a terrible idea to me.

Why would this be “catastrophic” for Olympic sports? Don’t fall for the narrative that, with all of the money that is being earned by these schools, that athlete employment would be tipping point. That’s nonsense.

Olympic sports are full of partial scholarships. And the reason many of them exist is as a student recruitment tool anyway. If you include the tuition, etc. that many of the student athletes actually DO pay, the financial equation is nowhere near what you are portraying.

It’s just chicken little nonsense.
