LSU went 14-12, 13-13 and 22-10 in Pete's 3 seasons, as his coach (and dad) cared only about his son shooting every time down the court.

Doesn't mean Pete was anything but a great offensive player, just that he probably would have been an extremely valuable player on a better team if he had a coach who emphasized scoring less and winning more.

Was there anyone else on the team that was really good?

The other day I heard Dan Patrick said that a few years back he was interviewing Dale Brown (long time LSU coach after Pet was gone.  He said through review of shot charts and game films he pieced together that Pete made 12 three pointers per game,  He averaged 44 points a game in three years, if you add 12 points per game to that, it would have been a ridiculous 56 a game.  He also scored over 700 points on the freshman team in his first year.  And with no shot clock there were fewer possessions per game.

I don't know. But that would be the coach's responsibility ... if the coach even wanted other players who would take shots away from his son.

In those days SEC basketball was pretty much Kentucky with some competition from Tennessee and nobody else.

Most of the SEC schools were still segregated.

Bad knees and was on a lot of bad teams. The only season he was on a team that won a playoff series was his last with the Celtics. Bird's rookie campaign. They lost in the conference finals to the Sixers who lost in the Finals to the Lakers when Magic scored 40 in Game 6.

The University of Antelope Valley men's basketball team won its conference tournament on Monday night, and the women's team plays in the conference title game tonight — despite their school no longer being in existence.

Wait, what? The Southern California-based university shut down last week amid financial woes*, forcing the basketball teams to raise money through GoFundMe to continue their seasons.

What's next: The men's team has qualified for the NAIA tournament later this month, and the women can do the same tonight. But will they be able to participate?

Don Ott, commissioner of the California Pacific Conference where UAV has been a member since 2015, expressed confidence that the school-less players will be granted waivers.

I read about this a week or so ago, there were stories about the coach raising the money. I actually donated, I felt so bad for him and the players, and he sounded like a really good guy. Hopefully they can all land on their feet somewhere.

Marquette's not the only contender with injury woes.

Houston didn't lose its PG, but it did lose its valuable backup center.

From The Athletic:

Houston freshman JoJo Tugler broke a bone in his right foot and will miss the remainder of the 2023-24 season, coach Kelvin Sampson told reporters Monday. Sampson also confirmed that Tugler will have surgery on Thursday.

"That's a big hit. Everyone will try to figure out what it means for us," Sampson said. "But that's a human being with a broken foot, who's invested his entire life into this season."

This is the third season-ending injury for the Cougars this season, who were voted as the No. 1 team in the country in this week's AP poll, receiving 52 of 60 first-place votes. Sophomore wing Terrance Arceneaux tore his Achilles against Texas A&M in December, and backup guard Ramon Walker tore his meniscus in practice about a week ago.

In 16 minutes per game this season, the 6-foot-7 Tugler averaged 3.8 points and 4.1 rebounds. He posted a season-high 13 points in his lone start against Penn on Dec. 30. But it's on the defensive end where Tugler's absence is a definite blow to Houston's title chances.

Detroit at UWM - Pull for Detroit so Marquette doesn't draw UWM in the tourney and cause Marquette alum to pee themselves in fear of playing their crosstown rivals

Kansas State at Kansas - Need a Jayhawk win to help the cause

St. John's at DePaul - A DePaul win helps Marquette possible avoid St. John's in a 4-5 matchup at the Garden.  That would help the cause

It might be a factor, but I wouldn't want to rely on it if Illinois beats Purdue tonight and then goes on to win the Big 10 Tournament while MU loses to Xavier.
