[Paint Touches] MU Extends Partnership With Jordan

No new jerseys for this upcoming season, but a 3 year extension of the Jordan partnership is a pretty big deal, IMO.

I would like this to mean that there will be originality and creativity in upcoming MU swag.    I sense disappointment in the offing.

Personally, I ready for new uniforms. I don't love them now and MU's calling card is new and slightly obnoxious uniforms.

Maybe something "Golden Goose"ish? Play up the "cracked sidewalks" angle?

I think this is where we need high level success. In the wake of the Final Four, when we were a regular factor in the old Big East, we got great uniforms. It's more than a decade since our last second weekend appearance. You want the cutting edge uniforms we're accustomed to, you need the results to go with it.

So one more thing (our uniforms) that Wojo ruined for MU.

I liked the grays that appeared for a couple of years during Wojo's tenure.  I think a lot could have been done with those.   Polos, quarterzips, hats.    Kind of like Wisconsin rolling out the black jerseys.

Yeah I don’t think that’s it at all. They’ve had one bad design, and I don’t think it was because Jordan/Nike decided “your program stinks so we’re going to give you a design that stinks.”

Georgetown has been much more irrelevant for much longer and still has awesome uniforms.

More so that there's no refresh this year, no throwbacks despite Marquette repeatedly saying they are asking Jordan to do them, and less of our tradition in uniforms being applied to new ones than in the past. Add in that we've been left out of Jordan events (PK80 & 85, Jumpman Invitational) and it's clear we aren't a front of mind program for our uniform supplier.

Brew - You've taken a turn toward the negative, yet our program is in its best place since Al?  To recap:

Our marketing/social media sucks.
Our long time radio announcer is racist. (False)
Our uniforms suck, and Jordan Brand doesn't care about our program.

What's next?

Our marketing/social media is below par compared to our peers. Not active enough, creative enough, or aggressive enough. If you're in the Marquette Scoop bubble where everything is awesome you may not see it, but they are targeting like it's still 2005 and the fans they are focused on are from that era.

Our long time radio announcer posts racist stuff on Twitter. And that's a fact.

Our uniforms are nothing special. Not as good as they've been in the past couple decades. And every time throwbacks come up on Twitter, Broeker complains about it. As recently as earlier this year. So it's not just me, it's Marquette admin that is disappointed with their uniform partner.

Why would they resign with a partner they clearly are not happy with?

I suspect because they think it's still the best option. Kids want to wear Nike/Jordan Brand over adidas/Under Armor. Recruiting wise, you also have the best players on the best circuit. Better to be a smaller fish in the Nike pond than even the biggest fish in the Li Ning one.

Yeah figured that was the case, i.e recruiting.

Here’s to hoping we can see the partnership improve under Shaka!

being the 6-7th best Jordan school is just way better than being the 20th best Nike school, the 2-3rd best adidas school, or the 2-3rd best UA school.

especially for a basketball first university.

Its the right decision even if their marketing is subpar at times. (the most legitimate grip i think i share.)

As for Homer, at least no one listens to the radio anymore.

George Thompson is rolling over in his grave with the way Brew talks about Homer.

Re Uniforms: lose the American flag.  We have too much NASCAR on these uni’s.  I’m assuming AL, Jordan & Big East are non negotiable.

Or … how about they keep Jordan, but
show / have enough wherewithal to get throwback uniforms ( if that’s what they and the fans want) !? Sheez …

I think “AL” is on the front of the waistband right now, which I think is a good spot.

The current uniforms have grown on me a little, but still ready for a new set.
