End the Baseball All Star Game.
« on: July 14, 2023, 06:23:06 AM »
Did anyone watch it? According the NY Post they did not even wear their team uniforms. If they got rid of it they could start the playoffs 3 days earlier.

They haven't worn their team uniforms since 2019.

It's been little more than an exhibition game for at least a couple decades, maybe closer to 3 or 4 decades.

As long as advertisers are paying beau coup bucks for commercials, the game won't go away, no matter your preference.

The great news is that it's very easy to not watch it.

They should make it count for something

And they aren't going to start the playoffs any earlier. Right now the season ends on a Sunday afternoon with most games starting at the same time to provide potential drama. They aren't going to move that to a Thursday afternoon. Getting rid of the ASG, which as MU82 points out isn't going to happen, would probably just mean more off days sprinkled into the schedule.

I kind of laugh looking back at it the huge overreaction to the tie. Like it was some black eye for baseball.

Meh, I never watch, but it is fun for the local market. I remember when Miller Park hosted, and I got to go to some of the events.

Baseball's All Star Game is the one ASG that is fun and somewhat resembles the actual sport.

Agreed. I do wish they'd go back to the individual team uniforms.

Yup, its not perfect. But MLB is by far the best all star event. The game and the derby top every other sport.

Odd all star game to call the end to.

The jerseys are dumb as hell tho

I also wish they would go back to the individual team uniforms. I always enjoyed watching the intros with the players lined up in their different uniforms.
They tried making it count for something by giving the winning League the home team advantage in the World Series, and scrapped it.

100% agree with all this. Especially the asinine uniforms being worn.  Go back to wearing your own teams.

I get it that its probably a money thing with the jerseys.

But if you have to do it, have the derby participants wear them. Its usually a good field of 8. People will buy those jerseys. People are not buying a Brent Rooker all star jersey anyways. Hell everyone at the derby on field watching can wear them that day too.

But game day should be team unis. And its something that based off simple online activity seems to be a near unanimous thought.

They tried that ... the winning league got home-field in the World Series. But the human outcry was so great they stopped that.

So, if not this, then what?
