Pretty crazy that people would trust this.  Just watching this video would make me not get on that thing for even a 50 foot dive.  Hope a good result comes of this, but it's looking pretty unlikely.

Hard Pass There.  That's not to say I don't have sympathy but most of the potential outcomes seem bleak.  And who's to know if a nearby Kraken bangerd it or another creature?

It would be a blow in via implosion, but yeah, pretty much instantaneous if that is the case.

Without doing the math, I'd assume, given the same time frame, we could rescue someone on the moon with more likelihood then this rescue.

come on dog, there's a window seat from the head.  so you have to have a bm in order to get the best "seat" in the house.  one way to secure that is to drop a stinger.  talk about depleting the O2 levels.  if i'm going to be down there for any period of time with 4 others, me thinks ya gotta have a say in what everyone consumes up to 48 hours pre launch, eyn'a?  no legumes or closing the 'lanche/real chili

While I can't imagine how horrific it must be for the individuals on the Submersible, I also can't help but notice the disparity in how we are responding.

Millions are being spent for this search and rescue. But migrant ships go missing all the time, and most countries just look the other way.

Canada is saying the cost doesn't matter, its about saving lives. But we let people starve around the world, or die because they can't afford insulin or access to medical care.

It is a bit enlightening on what we will spend money on to "save lives" and what we just ignore.

I personally, think we should do everything we can to save any and all lives, and hope that the people on Titan are rescued. But I wish the world cared equally about all lives.

The risk isn’t the issue - It’s more so the trivializing loss of life because the passengers are well to do.

I don’t know that it’s people trivializing the deaths due to their wealth. I think it has more to do that there were obvious red flags that showed this was likely to happen.

Correct.  Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

No one mentioned the kids who starved to death this week in Yemen, nor any of the other countless tragedies that occur daily.

But heaven forbid someone make a joke about five dead people who ignored warnings and met their death instantly and painlessly.

Yeah, I mean when the world's attention is focused on five rich guys who died in a sub standard submersible to visit the remains of a passenger ship that sunk 100+ years ago, versus the hundreds of migrants who sank to the bottom of the Mediterranean a few days ago trying to make a better life for themselves, I don't really want to hear lectures on trivializing people's deaths.

Once again, a good example that the government has money to burn. There was a 0% chance that there would be any survivors, but we still spent $10 of millions of dollars.

On the plus side, it was a good opportunity to practice a Search & Rescue in real time.
