TAMU, Knower of Ball

I think whether Huggy Bear survives or not will largely come down to how happy West Virginia is with his job performance. There's a not small population of West Virginia fans who think the game has passed him by and want him gone. I have no idea if these are just common fans or if there are some powerful donors in that camp. He hasn't made it out of the first weekend since 2018. He only got WVU past the Sweet 16 once (their final four run back in 2010). He's only made the tournament twice in the past five years (though to be fair his best team in the stretch was likely the COVID year).

This gives WVU the out they need to fire him if they wanted to. But if they are happy with his performance, I could see them letting this go for their native son.

Had he insulted the Catholics only, he would have been safe.

Are you sure? His boss, Gordan Gee "mutually decided to part ways with" Ohio State after making insulting remarks about Catholics.

I think whether huggins gets to keep his job or not should be determined by whether or not he comes out as homosexual.

Cause if he is homosexual he's allowed to say "cute one"?

I'll give you a real answer.

No one person "says" what one is allowed to do. Largely, the "policing" of speech is a societal construct and with more power and authority people are held to a higher communal standard. Additionally, if you are an employee of any business, your speech can be monitored by your employer.

Its a fact that members of marginalized communities use and reappropriate slurs directed towards their communities frequently. Homosexual men appropriate "cute one", and use it more frequently than any other community. Additionally society, at large, is less likely to police the speak of members of marginalized communities repurposing the "slurs" historically directed towards them.

I don't have a personal opinion either way as to whether it is appropriate. It is more of a statement of fact or an observation.

Based on how bigoted Huggins appear to be, the proposition of Huggins sexual orientation being different is humorous.

Everything in me is telling me not to ask this question on page two of a Scoop thread....

Yet here I go.  What Huggins said was anti-catholic for sure.  Why is it homophobic?  It is crude but I don't understand why it is homophobic "throwing rubber penises on the floor" has nothing to do with gay people?

Assuming this is in good faith, it was the slur he used twice that was the problem more so than the dildo story.

"F*g" is a derogatory word for homosexual. We don't know this?

@PeteThamel Sources: WVU and coach Bob Huggins are finalizing details for him to return to the sideline next season in the wake of him using an anti-gay slur in a radio interview earlier this week. He's expected to receive a suspension, $1 million salary reduction and sensitivity training.

I know it won't be a popular opinion here but I think this is a fair punishment. A million dollar salary reduction is not insignificant.
