Marc Lasry agrees to sell Bucks to Haslams for $3.5B
« on: February 27, 2023, 08:06:09 AM »
For anyone that is a fan of the Bucks or the city of Milwaukee in general this is the worst news possible. This has been in the works for months as I have been tracking this since rumors came out. For those that are not up to speed. Haslams is the owner of the Cleveland Browns and a horrible person in general, not someone you want to be in ownership with.

Despite his character he will look to be the governor of the bucks with majority control (most ownership %) and have no connection to the city of Milwaukee, something Herb Kohl put in place to keep the Bucks in Milwaukee when he sold the team 6 years ago. Now the question is if/when Haslams has full control of the team which could be years down the road, does he move the team to a different city. The impact of this could be catastrophic for the City and impact where Marquette plays as well moving forward.

Marc Lasry didn't have any connection to the City of Milwaukee when he bought the team. They have something like 25 years left on a sweetheart lease that prints money for the team.

He may be a terrible owner of the Browns, but the Bucks are going to be here for a long time.

And the purchase is reportedly about 25% ownership at a $3.5B valuation, not for $3.5B.

He also fought to keep the Columbus Crew in Columbus and not move to Texas. I think the NBA would prefer an expansion team over a team like the Bucks moving. Especially after basically forcing a new stadium to be built.

I think as long as Edens is still involved, we are fine. Also, Haslam used to own a piece of the Steelers before buying the Browns. Maybe he’s looking to get in the NBA and be in a better position to buy at the next chance.

Haslam sucks all around, but his impact will be washed out amongst the other ownership.

But that $3.5B valuation is incredible for a franchise in Milwaukee

Good deal for both parties . If Lasry wanted out it was better he sold his shares than force an outright sale . Also Haslam has a similar economic profile to Wes Eden’s which is also a good thing for going forward .
