I voted Big East championship. Winning only one game in NCAA tournament is not much of an accomplishment.

I would trade one tourney win for a Big East Championship but I would take a Sweet 16 over a Be championship

In a season where you had graduated your top 2 scorers, plus a 3rd starter, you added a few 3 star recruits and a relatively unknown international prospect, an NAIA transfer, and your leading returning scorer averaged 7 points per game last year, were picked to finish 9th out of 11 teams in your conference?  Give me the BE title over a single NCAA Tournament win.

If we lose our last 3 to DePaul, Butler, and St. John's to lose our chance at a Big East title, and then get just a single NCAA Tourney win, I'll have a sour taste in my mouth regardless.

2011 was awesome. Second weekend NCAA tournament makes you forget about 9-9 real quick.

Take an NCAA tournament win 10x out of 10.

youre right about 2011 but it's remembered because of the sweet 16 not because we beat the fighting Tu Holloways in game 1, we lose to Cuse and that seasons as forgettable as 02, 06-10, 17, 19, 22.

08 & 09 have proven to be rather forgettable despite both being 24 win seasons and having a tournament win each.

Different circumstances this season. Both MU and Shaka are in long tournament droughts. Both need to exercise those demons and this is the year to do it given the elevated expectations. A tournament loss this year would be much harder to shake than coming in second place in the BE.

That 2009 group, despite the season's unfortunate ending, was one of the most fun teams I've watched. It's only forgettable if you didn't live it. That team had five legit MU legends on it.

Outside of Marquette fans no one remembers this. A Big East title is more valuable.

Besides this, the way I read the poll it is a Big East title or one NCAA win. It is not a Big East title vs. a potential sweet 16.

A BE title is not more valuable than a sweet 16 lol.

And a lot of people remember it.

In fact when mentioning our tourney drought its commonly noted how right before we were cranking out sweet 16s 3 years in a row with 1 being a elite 8
Lazar picking up where the BIG 3 left off....

I would be willing to bet more casuals remember NCAA tournament success rather than a conference title.

Lots of bumps from the season can be forgotten if you win a game(s) you're not supposed to in the tournament ala 2011.

Lived it, it was my first year being an MU fan because I decided on going to MU in December or January that year made it to 2 games. the regular season was a blast that's what everyone remembers not the opener in tournament because we didn't go on a run. That backs up my point that BE title is better than single tournament win, it creates a memorable label for a great year. A single tournament win just gets lumped in with other non run years.

I want it all. And the best part is:it's not an either/or.

Programs are built on a foundation of regular season wins, but they are defined by performance in the championship tournament.

An NCAA win without a sweet 16 is as forgettable as a first round exit a conference championship for me

Agreed.  Big East title or Sweet 16 is more comparable.

Round of 32 exit = meh

Not sure since we have the original 2013 Big East Regular Season Marquette Championship Trophy that the team held on the court in our condo but would say both

I enjoyed 2009 WAY more than 2011, despite the S16 appearance.

I also enjoyed 2012 more than 2013, despite the conference title and E8 appearance.

2011 team felt like a massive disappointment.  I liked 2010 much more.

As a season ticket holder, a regular season conference title necessarily means many good home wins. There have been a couple of threads about best regular season wins, but this season there have been several games that sent me home very  happy.

A first round NCAA win would be a nice add on, but by itself it is only good for about two days. If you lose in the second round that first round win isn’t that memorable. A conference championship produces a banner and a long time memory.

If MU ever got to where it was winning conference titles regularly like Kansas, maybe they wouldn’t be that exciting any more. But MU is nowhere near that and I doubt they ever will be.
