I recall 25 years ago when Miller Park was being built, the engineers emphasizing that with the roof closed, they could heat the interior to 30 degrees higher than the outside temperature. The low Friday night is supposed to be 29. Do the math.

Keep in mind, all the heating ducts in the place are in the seating area at concourse level. Don't know how much heat can be generated out near second base where the basketball court will be located, in a building with a 200 +foot ceiling.

We shall see.

29+30=59

But the game isn’t going to be played when the temperature is at its lowest - that is normally just before sunrise. Which is why I said low 60s - just fine for basketball.

But it's been in the 70s through today.  How quickly is the building going to cool off?

Roof was still open around 5, fwiw.  It won’t be an issue

I suspect they could put a few large space heaters around the court if needed, like they do in the beer gardens.

As a young whippersnapper ( January 1968) I still remember watching what I think was the first time basketball was played in a baseball stadium. Lew Alcindor and UCLA v. Elvin Hayes and Houston. At "the 8th wonder of the world"----the Houston Astrodome. Hyped beyond belief for the times. 50,000+ people in house.

Big stuff.

The whole thing is a farce, a sideshow, a circus spectacle in the spirit of Ringling Brother or Bill Veeck.

No different than the Blackhawks playing in Wrigley. The people who I know that attended it said the venue sucked, the sight lines were terrible, no home ice advantage and sitting outdoors was awful.  They all said it was awesome and very glad they went. Once in a lifetime experience. They wanted to keep it 'once in a lifetime'.

If they wanted to host NCAA games, they would do it at the Kohl, like they did in 2002.

If I was in town, I might’ve picked up a cheap ticket out of curiosity.  The problem is the sheer number of bad seats there’ll be.  Miller Park is already a less-than stellar place to watch baseball.  I can’t imagine how far most of those seats will be from the action tomorrow night.

The Kohl Hole doesn't seat 40,000+

Or they would do it at Am Fam, like they're trying to do now.

I really think you are exaggerating how much the UW wants to do this.

I have a very reliable source which I’m sure you don’t. You just think it’s a bad idea (which I do too). Organizations try bad ideas all the time.

Other than the Final Four, the Tourney has moved away from domes.

And yet it hosted a regional in 2002. None of the regional sites last year were more than about 20,000. Next year, Louisville is the largest at about 22,000. Regionals generally don't seat 40,000+ so there's no reason Madison couldn't host one. If they wanted to, they would. But they don't because it would be extra work and they couldn't play in it.

That looks like a horrible way to watch a basketball game.

Exactly what I thought the lower deck would look like. Then section 128 is angled completely away from the game.
2nd deck gotta be better, but so far away.

That's ok, this barely qualifies as basketball anyway.

Anyone go to this game? My friend sent me a pic sitting dead center court and the seats look awful and very far away. Doesn’t look like a good venue to watch a game but happy to be corrected.

Attendance of 17,927.

I don’t think that would qualify as the “Largest crowd to see a college basketball game in Wisconsin.”

Shouldn't that first number be a 2 or 3?

I’ve always heard the issue with Madison hosting again was with available hotel rooms.

If UW would ever host at Miller Park it could work in MU’s best interest if we were good to get protected seeding.
