Title: UW game at Am Fam Field
Post by: Dickthedribbler on October 24, 2022, 12:31:09 PM
Does anyone have any reliable information on how ticket sales might be going?? The game is a little over two weeks away ( 11-11-22). While the novelty of the situation will no doubt sell some tickets, I can think of other reasons why interest might not be so strong.

I wonder if anyone explained to Stanford that here in the upper Midwest in November, a " retractable roof" IS NOT the same as a "perfect seal".

When you play around on the seat maps for the game, there are still plenty of tickets available. My guess is that they will have enough sold to make it look full on television but will be pretty empty when all is said and done.

This game reeks of utter boredom even with the novelty of playing in a baseball park.

Five-day weather forecast says the low temperature in Milwaukee Friday evening will be 29 degrees outside.

Could be interesting.

Who cares?

The only good rodent is a really dead one run over by a truck with a license plate that says MU#1.

I hope they don't draw crap so they can go back with their tail between their legs, never to be seen nor heard from again.

After all this hype, I can't wait to hear all the whiny BADgers complaining about how cold it was in there.

Okay.  I'm cool with that if they look like they did last year vs Iowa St.

So Wisconsin-Madison hosted NCAA Tournament Basketball games in a baseball field in Milwaukee?

Are the people in Madison trying to get the Brewers to play a home series in the Kohl Center in return?

Likely will never happen, the Brewers need that field in April.

I really don't think the UW wants to host NCAA games at AmFam. I believe everyone knows that's extremely difficult given the weather and the Brewer's needs that close to the opener.

I think this is all about a promoter who thought they could do something profitable, but is probably not going to make much at all due to the lack of interest.  UW signed on because they are getting a guaranteed $350k.

Yeah, little rodent, you're in Warrior Country now. Go back to your little Kohlhole and let's hope we never see nor hear from you again in these parts.

This is run to test the feasibility of hosting ncaa tournament games. I think it’s going to fail as much as you, but that’s their intention.

UW-Madison might draw better at Am Fam Field if they scheduled a Big14Ten baseball game in there against one of their rivals, like maybe Michigan.  Oh, wait, UW-Madison doesn't have a baseball team.

The only Big14Ten school that doesn't have baseball.

The heat isn't going to be a problem. It will probably be in the low 60s inside.

The lack of crowd is going to be a problem.

I recall 25 years ago when Miller Park was being built, the engineers emphasizing that with the roof closed, they could heat the interior to 30 degrees higher than the outside temperature. The low Friday night is supposed to be 29. Do the math.

Keep in mind, all the heating ducts in the place are in the seating area at concourse level. Don't know how much heat can be generated out near second base where the basketball court will be located, in a building with a 200 +foot ceiling.

We shall see.

29+30=59

But the game isn’t going to be played when the temperature is at its lowest - that is normally just before sunrise. Which is why I said low 60s - just fine for basketball.

But it's been in the 70s through today.  How quickly is the building going to cool off?

As a young whippersnapper ( January 1968) I still remember watching what I think was the first time basketball was played in a baseball stadium. Lew Alcindor and UCLA v. Elvin Hayes and Houston. At "the 8th wonder of the world"----the Houston Astrodome. Hyped beyond belief for the times. 50,000+ people in house.

Big stuff.

The whole thing is a farce, a sideshow, a circus spectacle in the spirit of Ringling Brother or Bill Veeck.

No different than the Blackhawks playing in Wrigley. The people who I know that attended it said the venue sucked, the sight lines were terrible, no home ice advantage and sitting outdoors was awful.  They all said it was awesome and very glad they went. Once in a lifetime experience. They wanted to keep it 'once in a lifetime'.

If I was in town, I might’ve picked up a cheap ticket out of curiosity.  The problem is the sheer number of bad seats there’ll be.  Miller Park is already a less-than stellar place to watch baseball.  I can’t imagine how far most of those seats will be from the action tomorrow night.

The Kohl Hole doesn't seat 40,000+

And yet it hosted a regional in 2002. None of the regional sites last year were more than about 20,000. Next year, Louisville is the largest at about 22,000. Regionals generally don't seat 40,000+ so there's no reason Madison couldn't host one. If they wanted to, they would. But they don't because it would be extra work and they couldn't play in it.

Exactly what I thought the lower deck would look like. Then section 128 is angled completely away from the game.
2nd deck gotta be better, but so far away.

I’ve always heard the issue with Madison hosting again was with available hotel rooms.

If UW would ever host at Miller Park it could work in MU’s best interest if we were good to get protected seeding.

They hosted in 2002. They can do a regional because it's only four fanbases coming.

As far as Miller Park, thanks but no thanks. The sight lines seem to have been terrible tonight and the glare on the court looked awful on TV. It's worth experimenting with anything once, but like the past failed aircraft carrier games, putting a game in a baseball park just doesn't seem like a successful venture.

There are enough hotel rooms now.  Ton of new hotels built in the last 10-15 years due to Epic.

No, I heard from a good source that the high ratio of dentists and dental students per capita in the MKE area has potential visitors afraid to visit MKE.  Take it for what it’s worth, but a solid source.

Anyway, the ball park for basketball is a failure for now. Unless you’re going to draw a lot of fans, 25k plus, it is a poor fan experience so why do it. I doubt most fans would be back and not   the casual fan.  UW could play UWM at the old Mecca if they really want another MKE game.

Maybe with a different setup and big name teams this could work, but still not a good basketball experience . Otherwise, this seems like a one time deal As mentioned above

Unless you are a student I could not imagine paying big bucks to sit in a football stadium to watch a final four/championship game. I would rather watch it at home on my big screen TV.

I wouldn’t pay for one because the prices are so high and you have to travel to watch teams you wouldn’t be invested in. But if one was held in Milwaukee and I could get tickets for $60 or something I’d be thrilled to attend.
