Most prognosticators have Purdue in the top-30, but Marquette's first big-time opponent has a history of struggling in non-conference play when they are inexperienced. Will Marquette be poised to secure a rare November road win? Cracked Sidewalks breaks down the Boilermakers:

Looking for a wider margin win than our secret scrimmage win.

How many MU bigs will Edey foul out?

Thanks Brew.  Great read.  Should be interesting.  Thinking about going to this one.  Never been to Mackey.

How many bigs does MU have to foul out?

Shaka had better have the zone ready.  Or else the pressure had better be effective.

I'm intrigued.

Edey will most certainly get a 15+ point double double, but how is he going to guard Oso? He has no shot at sticking with him on the perimeter.

Should be fun.

Sag?  Make Oso show him the jumper.

Yeah, I mean I don't think Edey will have any problem guarding Oso.  Dude's 7'3".  If they put Oso at the top of the key, just stand 2 feet inside the 3 point line and you can contest any drive or any dish to a cutter.

This is where we find out if Oso and any other big man Shaka seems to want can take advantage of big stiff traditional centers.  If Oso has developed an outside shot, Edey won’t have a chance.  If he is still one dimensional and can only drive, you are going to be right.

This is the interesting part of our team.  We don’t know how any of these guys have truly developed in the off-season until we see it.  Could be a fun year or a total disaster.

I completely agree with this.    The distance between this team's ceiling and this team's floor is as wide as any I can remember.

He's 7'3", but guarding pick and roll isn't his best attribute. I imagine they will be driving into the paint, forcing Edey to choose between challenging the driver (which opens up the pass to Oso) and sticking with his man (leaving the driver with a more open shot). If they try to go at Edey and score over him, it won't end well no matter who the attacking player is, but they can still use drives to take advantage of his PnR defensive weaknesses.

If Edey is going to just camp in the lane on defense there are plenty of ways to take advantage of that even if Oso cant shoot.

This.

Oso picks Kam's man, Edey sagging 10 feet off and now Kam has all the room in the world to launch 3's.

Sag?  Make Oso show him the jumper.

That's extremely easy to counter.

If Edey sags, you have Oso follow his own pass at the top of the key and screen for a shooter.  If Edey sags then theres no help on the screen for the shooter.

Then at that point it just comes down to whether or not you're knocking down shots, but uncontested 3s in 2022 is a good way to find yourself down quickly.

The Bucks won an NBA title having their giant center drop into the paint on the pick and roll, living with guys shooting screens with trailing guards contesting the shooter.  I think Purdue would live with Stevie Mitchell, Sean Jones, and Tyler Kolek running off Oso and hoisting 30 three pointers.

I just don't buy that Matt Painter is losing sleep wondering how he can defend Oso Ighodaro on the perimeter.

Purdue was really bad defending ball screens last year. I do think a lot of that has to do with Edey’s lack of mobility around the perimeter.

Get Edsey in foul trouble.
He isn't a problem if he is sitting on the bench.

I'm not sure we're going to get much of a scouting report today during Purdue's match-up with the Peay.  The glass/2nd shots is the big concern  Tuesday.  Can we force Edey into a bunch of turns with hard doubles?   He's gonna be difficult to keep off the block.

Edey is a match up problem for most teams.   Pressure, speed them up, don't commit dumb fouls when he does get the ball under the basket, shoot lights out from 3.
