Obviously this is a tough one.  Clearly American bread is dead last.  But where do we slot Injera?   My contention is there's nothing you can really compare it to worldwide.

Naan. There is no other answer.

Naan is outstanding.  There's also a wonderful Moroccan bread and a plethora of good Arabian flatbreads.

I don't know...hot sourdough bread with butter on it is pretty damn awesome...
Have some patience, FFS.

Sourdough bread isn't originally American.  It's been around forever.  Perhaps cornbread started here?  Southern biscuits?   I have no idea

So are good biscuits.

Their lack of versatility limits their overall ceiling imo.

What do you need besides gravy?

I'm not discounting the greatness of a good biscuit at all.  The fragility of the biscuit concerns me if we're going to have an honest and comprehensive discussion.  Many would go with the classic baguette #1,  but I think I would lean more towards a folding bread in the Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, or Indian mold.  The Sopapilla however may claim a special category and some immunity of sorts.  Like I said it's extremely, extremely. difficult.  What's the consensus top 10?

Biscuits and gravy? Texas toast? Pre sliced bread? Please guy.

Best bread in the world is the greenback, the dollar, the American buck.  God bless America.

Excellent choice..  Versatility needs to be considered here.  Chapati and many Rotis  for example have more versatility than Naan.  I think we're also discounting a number of South American offerings. That cheese ball bread thing in Brazil is superb.  Then of course there are breads specifically designed for their cuisine.  I can't think of a better example than injera.  We also cannot discount tortillas and arepas..  Or even the perfect bagel.  I do think you have clearly defined the best bread  that began in the present day United Stares.  Sopapillas I believe started somewhere in South America.

Crumpets suck btw.

Uhhhh French bread is easily the best.  What sort of nonsense thread is this?

I assumed you'd have recommended the injera from Buraka.

Also, I have had the momos at Little Tibet.  All of their food is fantastic, and the jhol beef momos are the best.
