Just kidding.  The Tanned One did get canned this morning, though.

This should be fun.......

This is the first time in his career he was fired.

Maybe Buzz can hire him as an assistant and those two can go full circle.

Wasn't he fired at Indiana? Also, I don't know that he's officially out at UGA, but looks inevitable.

Yeah, Crean definitely got crapecanned at Indiana.

I don't normally get involved in the Crean bashing as I appreciated what he did while at Marquette.

That said I take some pleasure that Crean did no better leaving Marquette.  In fact,  one could argue he did worse.  I really did fear when he left that he would win a Natty.  I think that train has left the station.

Name someone who left MU and did better than they had at MU.

This is a well researched article on Coach Crean.

There may be an interesting chain reaction  brewing. One of the coaches cited as a possible Crean successor is Jonas Hayes ,presently at X , and has done well recruiting for The Musketeers .

X could in theory give Steele the boot and promote their promising young assistant rather than have him go to Georgia.

Crean, arguably, but it's close. The final four at MU but at IU he had two conference titles, a one seed, and made it to the second weekend three times. Also won 7 NCAA games at IU compared to 5 at MU.

Even Crean himself admits leaving Marquette may have been a mistake.

As I recall, he felt he could not recruit with Big 10 schools while coaching at Marquette. So he goes to IU, has some initial success and watches that fall apart.

He goes to Georgia and can't compete with Kentucky, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas and probably Florida and LSU either. And, he's seeing Oklahoma and Texas on the horizon.

Perhaps the real problem is Crean's inability to sustain success.

There is something to that I think.  But I also think he was probably a few years too early to IU.  They were still PEAK unrealistic expectations.  They'd probably kill for 3 S16s in 5 years at this point.

As for UGA, its just a crap basketball program.  There is a reason they've won 1 NCAA game in 25+ years.  Rich recruiting area but always gonna be poached by much better programs.  Crean circa 2000 may have done something there.  But I don't think he's a chicken salad out of chicken **** by sheer force of will and great marketing kind of guy anymore.
