Crean failed to report a fight between two assistants and UGA is, reportedly, going to try to get out of his contract.

What disparaging remark could an assistant coach make about a player that another assistant is willing to fight him over it? If it was really bad you'd think the whole team would jump the fool

It's best for both parties to move on.  As we learned with Bryan Harsin and Auburn, if there is validity, Crean gets canned.  If not, it's a waste of time.  Like I said, TC can get paid being on TV by moving on or being miserable in Athens

Convenient way for UGA to dispose of a miserable failure without having to pay him.

One year ago I'd argue to bring the guy back to Marquette. Dark times.

Looks like Tom's coaching career is done.  Maybe he could land at a low major a la Pitino at Iona.  But his best bet might be to call Scholl and ask for a job in the Athletic Department.

I would guess his next job is TV. I thought he did well during his last gap year. With his Big East and Big Ten experience, I could see him on Fox.

Could turn up as da tight end's coach on his b-i-l's football team, hey?

I agree, and the firing for cause leak seems like UGA posturing to me.  The fight report is pretty weak and seems like UGA trying to get Crean to take a reduced buyout to go away, or else they will look for all the dirty laundry they can find to get out of paying him.  Even if there really isn't much there, Crean could decide its not worth it if any bad pub could endanger his ability to get a TV gig.

Never understood the fit for Tom and Georgia.  He never coached in the region (South), never recruited the area, never coached in the conference (SEC) and it remains a football-first school where basketball is an afterthought.

If he is fired, does he coach again?  Or does he return to broadcasting?

Another BS "for cause" lawsuit and settlement incoming.

forgetful

It would appear that the reports of them using this as grounds to fire for cause are false.

Would be really hard to do so after they officially said this.

"There have been various media reports related to UGA Athletics personnel ranging from completely inaccurate to incomplete and premature," the school said. "The incident in question was reported properly as required by university policies and is under review. We will comment if and when appropriate."

They are on the record as saying everything was reported properly.

6 and 20 ?   One win in the conference...

It would seem he's gone.  Also done in high major jobs.  Maybe he can take over at UWM when they Fire Baldwin?

Agree.

Now replace Tom with Shaka, South with Southwest, and the SEC with the Big 12.

Tom peaked at MU. Let's hope Shaka does too...and realizes it.

Al would have never survived this climate if he coached today; and he was progressive for his day.

Al would have punched this climate in the face, and then he and this climate would have loved each other all the more.

Sure he would have. Smart coaches understand how the environment has changed.

Crean is done coaching a major conference program.    He may get a job in the Horizon or Sun-Bet but I would think he moves to TV analyst.
