They'd have a hard time making a schedule because the big boys won't schedule them because the conferences will vocally demand not putting them on the schedule for why they got booted (they won't).

Some feel LSU is a big enough program to make it as an independent.  I have my doubts.  They'd never sniff a ND TV deal.  But, if they did succeed as an independent, it would open a lot of eyes to the possibilities.

Big time programs in college athletics that could make it and have TV networks pay them?  Why stay in a conference and share revenue with bad programs?

It's a long shot but the experiment would be fascinating to watch play out.  Conferences largely aligned to help with scheduling and such back in the day.  Are they truly necessary today?  Probably, but given the volatility of the modern landscape, nothing is guaranteed.
Perhaps if they changed their name to Notre Pere!

Yeah, probably so. But this is really rich coming from a guy who started the Pickleball Update thread just to keep scoopers informed about his feats on the court. ;D  ;D  ;D
Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.
