I am surprised that some here are surprised with the number of signings this spring. I always felt 2-3 returning guys would be the maximum and still feel that way. It was a perfect year for Shaka to take over and build his own identity. I hope there is at least one more addition to the roster.
Goose

100% agree. I expect 1-2 more impact signings from Shaka. Exciting times for MUBB.

Would have rather had Theo John stay another year, I believe.  This guy is just another body.

No, not just another body, a rim protector.  I agree Theo would have better, but he left.

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Theo John nearly has 2 times the turnover rate Kur does.

Playing with a wrist that needs surgery will do that to anyone.

Fair, I was going off their composite rankings, not their individual

Yeah, I was initially thinking he was a prime redshirt candidate, but talking to people that watched him more than I did, he might contribute meaningful minutes sooner than we expect.

Now that I think of it, didn't Oklahoma finish second in the Theo John sweepstakes four years ago?
Small world.

For what we need and what Shaka will try to do, Kuath is a better option than Theo anyways.

I woulda been just fine with Theo staying though.

Are we talking about the same Theo John that was here for the last four years?? And now, some are suggesting that they wish he stayed?....in Shaka's system?
Umm.....no.

Greg Elliott got hurt entering the Portal and will be sidelined 3-4 months

They really need to put a "Watch Your Step" sign on that thing.
Have some patience, FFS.

Theo John with his wrist injury his junior year had a 17.4% TO Rate
Theo John with few injuries his senior year had a 24.6% TO Rate
Kur Kuath had a TO Rate of 13.1% last year.

Theo wouldnt really work with shaka.

THEbig0

Can they skirt recruiting rules not being in the portal? Seemed Theo only "entered" after duke was a sure thing and not to feel it out. Maybe they are getting offers behind the scenes?

Herman Cain

Welcome aboard Kur.

Great addition to replace Theo. Lots of experience against high level competition. We need this kind of rim protector to compete against the top tier teams in our league .

Anyone else concerned with the way Shaka is running the program? I like all this new talent he's bringing in but the over recruiting makes me a little squeamish. Don't know if I agree with the message it sends to future recruits.

Every time anyone talks about "Shaka's system" I feel the need to remind people that this guy and his dad bod started 70 games over two seasons in "Shaka's system." If Dylan Osetowski can play for Shaka, Theo can play for Shaka.

This is a Dad bod?
Dylan was a crafty player.
Shaka sought Dylan out to play in his system.
We have seen Theo's work....time to move on.

Looking forward to Kur's game continuing to evolve. Shaka had to game plan against him, so I'm sure coach knows what he's getting into here.

Last name is pronounced "Kweth" for the curious.

Welcome Kur.

Still don't understand why we can't welcome one player without simultaneously criticizing a player that left who happens to play the same position.  I thought Theo would have been a good player to have around, I think Kur will be a good player to have around.  I also think that if Shaka is as good as most here seem to think (I'm personally far from convinced), he'd be able to find a way to get the most out of either player, that's kind of his job right?

ding, ding, ding.

That alone makes this a significant upgrade of Theo.  Stats are pretty similar otherwise in fewer minutes for Kuath.  Better athlete than Theo.  I don't see a downside.

As for the guys that plan to leave at the end of the semester, Smart know how many are leaving and who they are.  For all the handwringers out there, it's all good, this is what happens when a program goes in a new direction - be excited for next year.

As one who would have been fine had Theo returned, I'm fine with him moving on.

This simply is what happens in this kind of situation, this year more than ever.

He is bringing in his guys. He's not overrecruiting...things change.

You don't know what. . . exactly!? You don't know what message it is sending to future recruits? Who cares! He is starting over and apparently knows the recruits he wants and will bring in...what is to complain about?

Scholarships are year-by-year propositions, not 4-year promises.  Guys leave early for the draft, guys leave early via the transfer portal, guys leave early to play overseas, guys leave early because they'd rather go work at a mom-and-pop sandwich joint.  And with a new coaching staff who has no affiliation with this roster until mid-March, they especially owe these guys nothing.  If there's a mutual interest in playing for Shaka, fantastic.  Otherwise, you both act like adults and address that it's best you find a new place to play.  Shaka isn't gonna sit around waiting for 2/3 years to get a roster of guys he wants in his program.  At this level of basketball, that's comically naive.
EXCELLENT POST....I concur 110% Good stuff... the bottom line.

You nailed it.  ;D
