I've always hated the "Golden Eagles is bland" argument just because Warriors is pretty bland as well.  Warriors is every where in sports.

When I think of non-bland names I think of Hoyas, Tar Heels, Terrapins, Hawkeyes, Buckeyes, etc.  Something that makes you only think of one school.

Can you please provide a list of the other colleges/universities that use the "Warrior" name?

We have Wisconsin Lutheran.  Any others?

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

GooooMarquette

The Marquette Missionaries.

Some epic connotations with that one....

I loved the name "Warriors" when I vended the games in High School for Sportservice in the Arena. I earned my BA & MA at MU. Then the name changed. For years the chant "let's go Warriors" lingered.  Enough already. It been generations. It's time to move on & get on with life. Since Marquette is a Catholic School let's use a Catholic analogy. When I was a kid we had Latin Mass. Then we turned to the vernacular. There are people who miss the Latin. Services, under certain circumstances can still be in Latin. However, it is NOT coming back! It is safe to say that the Jesuits are not going to buck the tide of anti Indian mascots. It is a done deal. It's never going to return to "Warriors ".

Well, yeah, exactly.  44 years later he's still larger than life, still a symbol of the team, been honored in a zillion ways... but wait... using "Marquette McGuires" as your hoops nickname is a bridge too far... instead, go with the obscure sominex-type "Avalanche" with its roots in the 1930s or whenever.

How about "ALvalanche"

1000 Al's coming down the face of a mountain to bury all onlookers? That's intimidating.

It's funny that there's a college (Wisconsin Lutheran) literally located 5 miles from Marquette's campus with the nickname Warriors.

The mascot could be Al the Golden Muskie.

Did you know that Shaka was named after a famous Zulu king and warrior?  If there was ever a time to relate MU to warriors, this is it.

Or we could just adopt the "hang loose" emoji...
I mean, OK, maybe he's secretly a serial killer who's pulled the wool over our eyes with his good deeds and smooth jumper - Pakuni (on Markus Howard)

Travesty!

Better than the current one.

I don't even remember those uniforms.  Update the materials and the colors and I wouldn't mind those.  The MU on the shorts is better than the current MU logo.
