Flipping through channels this morning, Joel Osteen was on.  That dude really creeps me out. Looks bat sh1t crazy.

In the .8 seconds it took me to flip to the next channel, Osteen described the unenlightened as a bunch of “uncircumcised Philistines”.

Adopting this term for the scoop intellectuals.

That dude leads a luxury lifestyle and does not pay a dollar of tax.

Restraining order?

A restraining order from the entire city? I don't think that is how they work. ?-(

Why would people even post this kind of stuff?

- He's a carnival barker who proves a large percentage of US adults are idiots
- I need a good reason why churches are not taxed
- He's either certifiable or there is 0% chance he believes in god
- He'd poll at 15% for the GOP primaries in 2024

The credit that I’ll give Osteen is that he’s reasonable progressive for a televangelist and he makes the majority of his money through books.  He skirts around that “prosperity gospel” but is at least moral enough to not plunge into it feet first.

Hardcore prosperity doctrine guys like Kenneth Copeland (who I think may actually be pure evil), Creflo Dollar, and Jesse Duplantis are worth 9 figures (Copeland is worth half a billion with a B) purely telling people that they are prophets and preaching how God wants them to be wealthy. Their respective defense of private jets funded by their congregations is WILD

Good reason not to tax churches:

Most churches are small and have little money.  They operate on very tight budgets.  The rich megachurches, which are the vast minority, can afford to pay taxes and would probably use the taxes as fundraising rallying cry.

So the taxes would hurt small churches the most, and the megachurches, which are the supposed target of the proposed tax, would largely be unaffected.  If small churches are forced to close for financial reasons as a result of taxes, more people would turn to the megachurches.

The real problem is people not seeing these megachurches for what they are.  If people want to donate to a church, they should be a little more discerning with their money and donate to a smaller, community focused church.

Really? He funnels everything through his ministry, which is tax exempt. You might want to do some digging on all the scams the televangelists run.

OK, so you make the tax code for churches progressive, just as it is supposed to be for people.

The little church pays no taxes. The megachurch is in the mega bracket.

After the last two days.....

Do you now know why I asked the question.....

Bates and Aidoo are still out there.....

The walk-on scholly is certainly gone.....

But we have players clamoring to play for Shaka......

MU in a very good recruiting situation......

I also think it is interesting he is going young with players that want to play for him, his system,  and the university.....

Very little and nothing to this point out of the transfer portal......

as George Carlin once said, we could wipe out the national debt by taxing the Catholic Church on their real estate holdings alone.

Don't forget, he refused to open his church buildings to people impacted by the hurricanes a few years ago, while a dude who owned a mattress store did.

And now, back to MU basketball.

Yes, the one thing I was worried about was that most of Shaka's recruits at Texas were in state.  It brings up the potential that Texas itself is the magnet and not Shaka all the time.   Otherwise Shaka doesn't seem to have a pipeline all over the country which would designate him as an elite recruiter.   That was a huge question mark for me about him at MU - how much of his ability to recruit would take a hit here?  So far it's a non issue, but I will be wary until we get an out of state player that's top 50/top 100.  Curious to see if Shaka will be limited at MU.  Hopefully that's not the case.

Well at least a Texas State treasure. I would guess not many outside of Texas would know who he is.
