US Open scoring.

Do you think Rose goes wire to wire?  He's generally not the kind of player who has meltdowns.  I know it's early but that's a big early cushion.

Cause he has a history of substance abuse and issues with that and driving. And then the added oddities of how the direct aftermath was handled compared to other similar scenarios.

Also, I've been in multiple accidents and nearly avoided accidents.  In those situations, and otherwise, never have I accidentally hit the gas instead of brake, and have never heard of anyone else doing so outside of the very young, very elderly, or impaired drivers

You should listen to the malcolm gladwell podcast about the car (toyota?) Crashes

Yea but wasn't that the Toyota lawsuit and it was under 100 incidents?  Not exactly a wide ranging situation.

And again, the key factor here is Tiger's well publicized history of driving under the influence.

There are only 3 possibilities imo regarding the TW crash:

1)  He was asleep.

2) He was on drugs, alcohol, or both.

3)  He tried to kill himself.

Other explanations aren't plausible to me.  He never braked, going off the road, at 87 mph.  The idea he accelerated but tired to brake is very difficult to believe.  He's extremely lucky not to have killed anyone and be alive.

So who had Rose winning? (I didn't, either.)

He was +2 after 7 and then ... zoom! Eagle-birdie-birdie-par-birdie-birdie-par-birdie-birdie-birdie-par. So in the space of 11 holes, he had more birdies than I've had in the last 11 months, and as many eagles as I've had in the last 11 years.

I hope he comes down to earth and a few players rise up to challenge him, because I want to have an actual competition to watch on the weekend.

Quite an opening day for many of the big names. Paging Rory! Paging Bryson! Paging Lee! Paging Phil! Hello?

He has one of the best records at Augusta for someone that hasn't won the event.  Surprised he played well because he simply hasn't been in form and withdrew at Bay Hill with a balky back.  But his record at Augusta is pretty darn good

I'm sure there was some heavy watering of the greens going on overnight and it'll be a dartboard today.

I'm with you.  If Rose runs away it won't be very compelling.

It looks like the course could yield so low scores with the moisture and little wind.

Rose reverting to recent form.   Still time to.right the ship.   Imagine where Weisbergr would be if he hadn't putted off of 15.    And where would Spieth be if his chip at 15 doesn't hit the stick?

I see Finau has made a little run.  It's amazing he has only one PGA tourney win.  Good scores appear to be out there..  I'm glad Rose fell back.

Rose has some early troubles but got it back to even par for the day -7

Spieth at -5 will be interesting to see if he can carry the good play through the weekend

Would have liked to have seen Thomas get that par on 18. Nice to see Spieth in the hunt at a major again.

I had to look up this skinny kid who killing the course. Had never heard of him.

And how bout Kim? He got pissed, broke his putter, and now heat making pats using his 3-wood as a putter.

Yeah. I've seen thicker rakes. He hits the hell out of the ball, though. Could play in the final group with Rose tomorrow.

ESPN reporting that Tiger thought he was in Florida when he woke up, from the police report.
