I know you believe this, and I know you can point to one example where transfers are winning, but it is very uncommon to bring a team together that way.  K & Cal could barely win with stacked rosters this year.

My only point being, expectations for MU next year are a completely unknown right now.

Unknown is fine with me now. Better than lower half of the BE for the foreseeable future.

Maybe we can be Arkansas. That is the way college basketball roster building is moving. It's year over year, not four year classes. Wojo never could manage that.

It will depend on the hire. If the new coach can keep the big 3, keep mitchell/Aidoo, and make up a supporting cast of returning players and/or transfers, they could be good again next season. Smart money is that the new coach won't be able to do all of that so we are likely in for at least a year possible 2-3 of rebuild. Either way, it was the right call.

The "Big Three" gave us a losing season, though. I don't see it as a big loss if we rebuild without this year's core. There's a lot to like about each of those guys individually, but things just didn't come together this year enough.

The transfer portal will be a wild ride this year. Leverage that as much as possible. There are a ton of guys who'd love to play in the Big East in the nicest hoops arena in the country. Shouldn't be that tough of a sell.

Young players usually improve, sometimes by a lot.

They already are good college players; they have a high ceiling.

...and with a new coach that can actually teach them a system of play rather than just standing around to make the desperation shot in the final seconds as the shot clock winds down.

I generally agree with this. But somehow, the sum of these parts weren't quite what I would have expected. Lots of factors in play, but I still think we can rebound with a very different roster if need be.

I would love to have DJ, Lewis, and Garcia back next year and for years to come, but I can also get on board with new guys given the situation.

But that that was on the coach. Or so I read thousands of times the past few weeks.

DJ, DG and JFL are remarkably talented players, and we could be pretty good if the new coach could keep them around. I'm not holding my breath, but a good core exists if we get the right coach.

Well, sure. I'll support whoever wears the blue and gold, too. Glad you agree about DJ, Lewis and Garcia, though.

Badgerhater

Optimism and growth go hand in hand and winning should follow.  There was neither if MU kept its previous coach.
When we stop talking, really bad stuff happens.
