Enjoying the news, but probably a lot of transfers out in the immediate future.

But hey, it a #donedeal time to become Marquette basketball again

Farley36

It was already going to be bumpy next year just like the last 7 years.

5DollarPitcher

Stop this. This attitude is what gave us Wojo for 7 years.

Just win baby.

Hope we hire a big enough splash to keep core kids in house
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Exactly.  Will be a massive departure of players.

The future is now.

Better than spinning the tires for one more season with a lame duck coach.

cheebs09

I'm ready for it. I didn't have a lot of optimism for next year as it was with Wojo as coach.

CountryRoads

Oh well. This program needed a shake up.

No doubt but we will handle it.  Good times are on the horizon for the Warriors.

Frenns Liquor Depot

Best year to reload in many.  No restrictions on transfers in.  Record number of players in the portal.  Opportunity for quick rebuild better than ever.

That's the other side of the coin.

Shark

There is like 1000 players in the transfer portal. New coach could have a decent roster year one.

Agreed. Moving on. I'm a season ticket holder again!

Agree. Just look at what happened with the Bears this offseason trying to hold everything together for one more season.

But it isn't gonna be a pretty season next year but better start sooner than later.

MUCam

Interestingly, even if we lose everyone (we won't), this might be the perfect year to move with free years and free transfers.

If ever we could piece together a team in a hurry it would be this year with transfers not sitting out.

Need to get a coach and staff in place quickly.

Beilein would make me so happy, but anyone please and soon!

Right...we didn't have much to lose to begin with. Carton was rumored to be going pro, Lewis was rumored to transfer, Garcia would have maybe been here one more year? That wasn't your typical young core of players. Seemed they all had one foot out the door anyway. And who cares on the incoming recruits.

I understand why MU decided to move on, but I have my concerns on whether this was the year to do it. We might need to prepare for a bumpy 2021-2024.

This is a huge hire. If there was ever a time for MU to break the bank on a big well-known hire, it is this year. We need someone that can come in, take the reigns, and command instant respect.

Yeah....who cares about MUBB commits?
🙄

SWARM!

TAMU, Knower of Ball

It will depend on the hire. If the new coach can keep the big 3, keep mitchell/Aidoo, and make up a supporting cast of returning players and/or transfers, they could be good again next season. Smart money is that the new coach won't be able to do all of that so we are likely in for at least a year possible 2-3 of rebuild. Either way, it was the right call.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

There are already record numbers of players in the transfer portal. This is the best year to make a move if you want to compete right away with a new roster.

Deep down I am hoping we find a home run hire that can do that. It'll mean the AD actually hired someone that is exciting and matches the vision of how we think Marquette should be acting in the realm of the NCAAB world.

I know you believe this, and I know you can point to one example where transfers are winning, but it is very uncommon to bring a team together that way.  K & Cal could barely win with stacked rosters this year.

My only point being, expectations for MU next year are a completely unknown right now.

GoldenWarrior11

If Scholl can get a hire like Duffy was for the Women's Basketball team, it will be a grand slam.

avid1010

I'm looking forward to watching a coach that can coach, watching players develop, etc.  There was no hope with Wojo.  Liked him and his players...but it wasn't going to happen.
