There are a lot of Paul Hornung stories floating around, but I think my dad has the best one ever.

Dad grew up in East St. Louis and played football for Assumption, the Catholic boys' high school there. The year that Paul Hornung won the Heisman trophy, the local Knights of Columbus chapter paid to have him come to Assumption's football banquet. It was his first professional speaking engagement. At the banquet, the boys on the football team all signed a cloth napkin and gave it to Paul, and told him to use it to polish his Heisman.

Many years later, my dad was doing business with a man who happened to mention that he was friends with Paul Hornung. My dad told him the story about the napkin, and the guy said, "You've got to be kidding me! That was you?" He went on to tell my dad that the napkin was framed and on display in Paul's office, and when the guy had noticed it, Paul told him the exact same story.
Have some patience, FFS.

So Hornung had your dad's autograph in a frame? Cool!

That is a great story. I hope your father spread that news to his teammates .
