It's not often we see current MU players take on current NBA players, so don't mind me, just climbing on the Dex hype train after seeing him take Donovan Mitchell off the dribble.

Are we sure that is Dexter? Because if we are...

That was the first thing I asked, haha. And then I checked which one was Spida. And then I watched it all morning.

Honestly that's amazing. Obviously his ability to score is very nice, but why I like most is his pace and comfort with the ball in his hands. That was my only problem with Markus was he seemed to let defenses dictate what he did rather than manipulating what a defense did to him, if that makes sense.

If the young man in the light blue shirt is really Akanno.....     yes, please......      I am suddenly picturing 3 guard offenses again.

I believe this is at Kobe's former Mamba Academy.  Or the sister location in South Bay.  Never would have pegged Dester Akanno as the MU player to be hopping with NBA talent in LA.

Recall that he worked with Steve Nash prior to heading to MU.  Either he knows all the right people, or there's something that a lot of folks see in him.

Yeah I think Buzz seen something in him too.  But Wojo got him.

If I remember, (not sure) the Steve Nash thing was a one day thing.

Someone like Dexter surprising majorly to the upside is the difference between tourney and no tourney (IMHO, of course).

Not gonna put unrealistic expectations on him, but that was promising.

This is how I felt about Juan Anderson's mixed tape.

But, I get it, that wasn't against NBA players. So, whoooo-hoooo. All BIG EAST BABY

Its DJOver

He had his quirks, but the idea of having a pg in every class is a solid Buzz-ism.  Different players develop at different rates.  You never really know when a guy ranked as low as Dex was will be "ready", but it would be a most welcome addition if it's as early as next year.

Forgot the best Dexter clip from that game. Check out the cross and drive to the lane and the audacity to try and throw that down. I had no idea he could even dunk to be honest. He looks like an absolute monster even against NBA players:

Encouraging. I was especially impressed with the confidence with which he took his shots. No hesitation. Acted like he knew they were going in. Also liked the pace, as a couple other Scoopers said.

Every once in a while a player who doesn't get much summer exposure is underrated by the rankings services. I think that was the case with Dexter. It was fortunate MU signed just as word About him  was getting out. Also was helpful MU had the depth to be able to let Dexter red shirt .

Love seeing this stuff, but still going to temper my expectations. It's still highlights and who knows how hard everyone is really going in these open gym situations. Love it if he can crack the roster and provide some positive contributions.

bilsu

I remember him in the pre season game last year. He was physically strong and aggressively drove to the hoop. He missed the layup. He looked like he had a lot of potential to me. Symir looked more advanced, but he does not have Dexter's body. Symir looked weak against a lot of Big East guards this year. Hopefully, Symir has been doing serious work in the weight room,

True, his Nash thing might have been just a one day/video deal, but it still shows that he either has really good connections to the NBA, or people respect his ability and potential.  Being from So Cal certainly helps in getting the opportunities to play against top talent, and showing flashes of "belonging", even in a pick-up game, has to be a big confidence boost.  For a guy like Dexter, who appears to have all the physical tools, confidence in his game may make all the difference.

Absolutely agree.  Somewhere on Youtube  there is a clip of his workout with Nash and I liked his listening intensity look during the w/o.
