It could've been blowing smoke, but his speech at the 100th dinner seemed pretty clear that he didn't realize how good he had it here until he left. While I think just about anyone in his position would take Indiana, he's realized in retrospect the no-brainer decision isn't always the right one.

Agree and think he would do a very good job because hes built a name with all the players that he has had go pro.  The issue is he is such a boorish ahole that he is impossible to root for.  Serious personality disorder.

MU has covered in all three games so far. I'm not as confident in the 5.5 but 3-0 rolling with them so far so I'll give the points.

Hope the MU players hedged and took the 5.5.
#win/win.

Buzz has never marketed anything but himself.

We (mostly) all loved him when he was here and said how he was less a self-promoter than Crean. We really didn’t get dissed by him. He had a problem with Larry Williams and Scott Pilarz et al.  Not with Marquette.

Yes, he whiffed on the prognosis for the new BigEast. Don’t think that had any maliciousness to it either. Just overestimated the effect of football money and underestimated the job Val and Co. would do. Also, Buzz didn’t foresee the commitment Fox and its FS1 was about to make.

I wouldn’t go that far. I don’t think he regrets Indiana at all. He didn’t have a FF or Natty, but he coached #1 teams there. And not many coaches can say they coached at a legendary program. I do bet he wishes he could have come back after

He got to coach at TWO legendary programs.

I'm still not sure he did... Outside of nova I'm not convinced.

Watched the game at the Wynn SportsBook LasVegas. Game was on 3/4 of the TVs including the big screen.

I surprised myself by how much I got into it. I cheered a lot, especially at the end, obviously. It reminded me of how much I've missed sports, and of how much I love the blue and gold.

For me, the unsung heroes were Cook and Derrick. Both played their roles to perfection, and Cook actually contributed a ton in the title game. But really, everybody who played contributed throughout the tournament.

The only time I beyotched the entire tournament was when Buycks took that silly foul tonight for #5. I didn't think Chapman should have had him in the game then, either, and I think I saw Joe pat his own chest -- as in "my bad" -- when he had to take Buycks out.

Otherwise, Chapman did one heck of a job coaching during this tournament. Lots of really good inbounds plays, lots of great answers anytime the opponent had a short run, his guys played really hard for him, the team almost always looked organized and ready and intense.

It can't be easy coaching a group of adult men who think they have everything figured out already. Very impressive work by Joe.

All in all, a fun, satisfying fan experience.

Ok, but from a short-term perspective, he did, even if Nova carried most of the weight. To your point, look at last year top-to-bottom and the parity strength of our league. Recruiting is fine. BET still the top college draw at MSG by far. Add UCONN. I like our trajectory.

Well I guess he's glad he didn't land in the Big 10 that hasn't had a National Champion in almost 20 years.

I'm a Buzz fan. I wish he was still our coach but from reliable sources he wasn't welcomed back.

Marquette's TBT shorts were selling out quick. Had to take a size down.

Derrick Wilson climbed the ladder several times.  Basketball is amazing to watch when everyone brings the intensity.

Oh my god look, it’s Elon Musk flying to Mars! (No, but seriously, Elonmusk/Ners genuinely came on here and posted that Derrick looked like...you guessed it, his high school self, after this play)

Tom Crean’s wall:

https://twitter.com/tomcrean/status/1283201777408413696

Actually pretty cool and shows his connection to his players. Calipari takes a ton of pride in getting his players into the league and has tons of jerseys in his house as a result.

As for Crean being a boorish a**hole, the stuff that he’s done with Pardon My Take has actually been really good and he doesn’t take himself seriously at all. He’s one of their favorite reoccurring coaches, they’ve had some hilarious convos with him. He may have lightened up a bit post-IU

I think in most careers, looking back, there are places where one can say “that’s where I was happiest” while also acknowledging that moving on from that company to another company for a better title or more money is/was the right move.

I think if for whatever reason Crean came back to MU, his personality and where he is in life would be vastly different from his previous time there. On a side note, his year as an analyst at ESPN, I thought he was terrific.

Awesome moment, but god that was such a bad team. What a bummer of a season for my senior year.

The issue with Crean is that he lied to Fr Wild about his intent to stay.  That bridge is burned.

The greater MU community is behind this squad . I think that’s a great base for the Program to build off. This team showed that tough tenacious and gritty identity that characterizes Marquette basketball.

ESPN has a vested interest in promoting TBT . Golden Eagles Alumni Team will be part of the promotion Just like Ohio State team was last year .
Winning is overrated. The only time it is really important is in surgery and war.
