Wojo was undefeated in the 2020 postseason.

So do they go ahead with the selection show on Sunday?

I hope that they do so my last memory of this season is Wojo getting relegated to the NIT.

Aren't each site hosted by a university? Don't they bid for the site locations? So, you're going to screw the selection process and the preparation for hosting by changing venues or make host sites possibly break contracts with other events/promoters/leagues?

This isn't like a promoter moving a concert from Fiserv to the Marcus amphitheatre in June.

Pretty sure in an unprecedented situation like this, the contracts will be void. If the universities still have the power to hold and want to, sure let them. But why are you making this an issue?

Duke just suspended all athletic activities.  No way the tournament is played without their inclusion.  The tournament won't get played.

Their AD is chair of the committee right?

crazy the BE marches on despite every other conference stopping...  chances they stop before the end of games today?   or will it be Marquette getting pummeled by Seton Hall as the final NCAA game played this year..

This is the best breakdown I've seen of the potential spread, and if it does follow this path things could be much worse in a couple of weeks. If it follows this line it seems the best case is delaying it and eventually seeing a peak and then falling off in caronavirus within a window that let's the tournament be played late without fans.

I hope they do selection Sunday just to recognize teams, even knowing the games may never be played.

Not a Good Look for the Big East.

Actually, it is not a good look for college basketball/NCAA.  Val said this morning, during a conference call, all the conferences - at the time - were planning on moving ahead playing games.  The fact that there isn't a true commissioner of college basketball is even more glaring.

With Kansas/Duke now cancelling athletic events, everything is being done in response, rather than group/collective.  One brightside to this terrible situation is that it could lead/force the NCAA to completely be revamped/restructured to create more effective leadership and autonomy.

Because the thought that any organization can pull off  a change of this magnitude with a month's notice is naive. There is no possibilty of it being played at a later date if/when it's canceled.

Golf - no fans

I'm willing to bet to stay on schedule, missed games will not be made up at a later date.  All seasons will be shortened.

Could they just postpone the NCAA tournament to start like April 16th?
Is that even a viable option?

Oh what a great idea, remind every player, coach, fan, etc. what we'll be missing and never see. Pour salt right in that open wound and wallow in it.  Remind all the seniors who would have played their last hurrah and attempt  at NCAA glory was stolen from them.

Theoretically, anything is possible.

From a practical perspective, I highly doubt it. In addition to the logistics of stuff like arenas and TV, teams wouldn't be playing games (maybe even practicing) for a month, so they'd be coming in cold. I wish I thought otherwise...but if they don't hold it as scheduled, I think it's over. And I can't imagine they will be holding it as scheduled....

I mean if the NCAA doesn't cancel the tournament before Sunday, they kind of have to notify the teams of the field.  If there is any sliver of hope it will be played (it wont be played), even if that is 2-3 weeks away, they need to tell the teams who are in the field.

There are wayyyyyyy too many moving parts to delay the NCAA tournament.  If it doesn't start a week from today, its not happening.  And its not going to start a week from today.

Also...its crazy how much this this escalated in 24 hours.  Absolutely insane.

Kansas apparently did not pull out of the tournament. Admittedly, I have no idea what this means. But Kansas is adamant they did not pull out.

Update: KU not pulling itself out; it has suspended its sports program. But it's not out of the tourney.

You can still catch it if you pull out?

Well, NCAA currently in talks with the Corona Virus to negotiate a start date.  Right now talks have stalled with the Virus demanding a peak infestation well into April and will run it's course into May.

Let's still have a tournament funded by a private organization and allow all the proceeds go to the players.

YESSSS!

We can call it "The Basketball Tournament" or "TBT" for short. Maybe even let some alumni players participate?

Bond movie delayed release
Quiet Place 2 delayed release
Fast and Furious 9 delayed a year.

Guess no one headed to the theater.  Wait till next week when Governers close schools for three weeks.  Oh, wait, Ohio just did that.

No way on planet NCAAs happen next week.

Woah that's so meta! And like maybe there's some private organization basketball players can play in without the obnoxious distraction of school?
