Dan Dakitch said this morning that when people have asked him to give them two "futures" bets for the NCAA tournament, he said he tells them Marquette and Iowa, because both teams can score.

I want this quote to serve as a reminder to the vast majority of scoop posters in regards to the MU BB program.

yep. he also said a school like Marquette can easily replace Buzz Williams, while Va Tech could not. MU being a basketball only school with lots of resources to throw around.

Interesting to see the defending National Champions listed as a sleeper and projected 12 seed.

Marquette is a potential sleeper, but I'm worried they won't get out of the 1st round.  It has seemed the last few years like the NCAA games haven't been called as tightly as the regular season.  Perhaps there's a memo that they want games on time (at least that's what my group speculated the last two years).  If Howard shoots 10+ FT in the 1st round, we advance.  But if he can't get the the line much, we don't.  Really would love to see this be a Sweet 16 year.

Sitting here today, I think this group has better chance to make some noise in March than I felt last year at this time. This group is playing good D, rebounding well and seems like multiple guys are stepping up when needed.
Plus college ball is down as a whole and only a few teams that stand out. Lastly, it seems like scoring points is lost art at the college level this season and MU can score. I would be more surprised with a one and done than us playing the second weekend this year.

Not saying I disagree - UVa definitely is a bubble team this season.

It’s just that NC caliber teams typically have the ability to reload, at least to the point of easily getting back into the Dance.

Right now, I think I'd agree with you on most of this. This group has done a nice job of fighting through some of the issues they faced earlier in the season (turnovers, traveling, unclear roles, etc), and they seem to really be hitting their stride. Another key thing is that we've got a locker room full of guys that stuck it out through some tough internal situations, which probably gives them a tighter bond and even a little chip on their shoulders.
