NMD = National Marquette Day

NM = never mind

I never hear those students boo during the week night games.

Yeah really nothing to complain about at all right now.  This might have been the best team win of the season.  Yes Markus led in points but it was a quiet 17 (somehow) and there were many contributors across the board in all categories.  Only thing to clean up is some of the careless TOs but they didn't cost us today.  Team is really coming together.

I've been hard on Wojo in the past and it's really hard for me to not remain perpetually  skeptical about his actually coaching ability, but today he did two things that I don't recall seeing before, and that was calling out Koby and also talking to Markus after his forced brick from the corner.  It's like I felt like he's finally in-game coaching.  So that was good to see.

This team is a Kamar Baldwin not playing Superman and a miss contested 3 in regulation from being 9 - 2 in the BE.  Can't change the past but we've played pretty darn good conference ball outside of at Creighton and at SH.  As others have said, at Nova is house money.  Win that game and it actually seems like 2nd place would be ours to lose.  I'm really enjoying this team right now and get the sense that they may just finally have the toughness to do something in the tournament.

Disagree brew.  Butler's press was effective.  They forced passes to Jayce and immediately fouled.  He made 'em pay so great for him.  Also Jordan emptied the bench with more than 2 minutes to go.  Wojo looked up and then looked down the sidelines toward him.  Butler played it all just fine.

Wojo didn't think so. I'm not saying there was any intent to injure, but fouling Markus after a defensive rebound in the backcourt when you're down 19 with 2:42 was kind of crazy. That's not Hack-a-Jayce.

Then with under a minute, Marquette had one of those "up 16, let's dribble out the possession" vibes. Wojo motions for them to keep going, Koby drains a three to push it back to 19.

I get it if the consensus is that what Jordan did was fine, but I can't remember a coach being as unwilling as he is to accept a loss. I considered last year a bit of a fluke, but the more I see it, the less it feels like chance.

Not a mountain. Just saying I've seen this before and don't appreciate it. And Wojo has seen this before and also doesn't appreciate it.

The dribble out the clock in victories is a relatively new thing aver the last 20 years or so.  Before that when one team had the game won the end of the bench guys would be in the game playing full-throttle to try and impress the coach.  I prefer that.  I really hate it when you just dribble around and let the shot clock expire.  Just play, and if you don't want your stars to get hurt, take them out and let the end of the bench get some run.

I don't think it was an accident that Koby was still in at that point. Wojo had taken all the other guys with star performances on the day out. Koby was in there to twist the dagger. It felt conspicuous at the time when he didn't come out when Markus, Bailey, and Anim did in pretty short order.

I think you're right. When the subs came Koby actually went to the bench thinking he was subbed out. To his surprise he had to run back on the court.

I figured we needed a ball handler with them still pressing. Also, even with walk-ins, we typically need a rotation player in.

I did find it odd they started fouling so early with so many guys in foul trouble.

But Sy was in and brought it up. And Jordan did put in his reserves with about 2:00 left, so he did finally wave the white flag. Really think Koby was there because Wojo didn't accept the surrender.

2:00 isn't an unreasonable time to put in your reserves.

Jordan pulled his starters with over 2:00 left.  It seems like he accepted his defeat earlier than just about any other coach I've seen this year.

They started hacking Jayce down 14 with over 4 minutes left.  Pretty smart move. Send a 50% foul shooter to the line, hope he misses both and you get an empty possession with 0 time going off the clock.  Once Jayce made them pay on 3 straight possessions, he waved the white flag.  I doubt he was screaming for Kamar to foul Markus after a defensive rebound in the back court.  It was probably just that Butler had been fouling the 3 previous possessions so Kamar fouled as quickly as he could.

I don't think Lavar had dirty intents on his mind, I think he knew his only hope was empty possessions with no time going off the clock.  I don't think Wojo was trying to twist the knife on a blowout win, I think he didn't want to take a shot clock turnover.

It's really not a big deal.  Or a deal at all.

Possibly the most complete game Marquette has played in years.

Howard looked great not forcing to much, hopefully bailey can keep this up.

I'm with you on all the above. The balance of the game was great, defense was especially good, and the effort/intensity was as high as we've seen all year. I'm sure the week off was a nice break for the guys, and they clearly took advantage of the time off to rest and prepare for a tough game. Wojo gets a ton of credit for this one too. He did a great job from planning to execution. Very well done.

Statement victory yesterday against a very strong Butler team.  The team appears to really be coming together at the right time.

Hopefully the Debbie Downers can relax a bit and enjoy what a memorable team we have this year.

I tend to agree with this.

And if Koby had gotten hurt while playing with the scrubs strictly because Wojo wanted revenge, it would have been an unforgivable coaching sin for me. Glad it didn't happen.

It's not, I was fine with that. It was the 2:30 before that, particularly the foul at 2:42, that was uncalled for.

Marquette had 16 assists as a team -- including 6 from Koby, 3 each from Markus and Sacar and 2 from Symir. That's the highest total in Big East play so far this season. It's great to see such good ball movement and everyone getting involved. Marquette also had its best defensive game since the Villanova win. Hope we can keep it rolling.

Great to see Symir got 2 in only 4 minutes played.  Maybe he gets that 10 assist game this year.
