Listening to the Shotgun Start this morning, Jordan Spieth is currently 51st in the world.

How crazy is that? The guy had a chance to win every major in a single year not that long ago. This should be discussed more, the far from excellence has been exemplary.

Tiger, Jordan, Rory, JT... who else do you really want to watch golf? As it sit down and watch their round.

Was a good episode today. I already subscribed to the Get a Grip podcast as I find Shane funny on podcasts and Max's reviews of peoples swings are awesome.

But I like to throw handfuls...

Shane has his Clubhouse podcast which is also great if you don't subscribe already.

Think Spieth's issues are mostly mental.  He chased distance after 2015 and while he won some, his game wasn't nearly as sharp.  Couple that with some putting yips in '18 and you have a recipe for self-doubt.

I'm pulling for him because he's a compelling golfer and honest to a fault

Tiger hit the proverbial wall at Riviera, suggesting he probably could have used the rest more than another tournament.

He did have a funny quote after yesterday's 77, though:

"Good news: I hit every ball forward, not backward. A couple sideways."

For him, everything is about getting ready for Augusta. I would bet he will be ready.

Played very well Thursday, I'm going with the hosting duties being too much for him.

He didn't even practice.

There's little reason why he wouldn't have excelled otherwise. Firm, fast, wind and contoured greens is why Tiger will have success in the bomb and gouge era.

Tiger's body does not handle cold weather well.    Pretty simple.    If it is cold (and LA was in the 40's-60s over the weekend) he just does not get loose or comfortable.

Duly noted. I stand corrected.

Soooo... with courses and driving ranges closed for the foreseeable future, anyone have any good at home training aids/drills to try and stay somewhat sharp?

MU Fan in Connecticut

The courses near my house were open over the weekend.
Apparently no carts, no tees, no ball washer, and no pulling the pin.
I guess because it's outside, smaller groups and everyone can social distance?

Personally, I think having golf courses open is fine.  Keep it to single players or duos only.  It's sort of like going to the park... which isn't forbidden.

It makes sense, totally. But in WI it's a no go.

No tees? So you had to take whatever club off the deck?

SkyTrak, hitting mat and a net...best purchase I made in 2019.

Maybe a bit more realistic, a PlaneMate. Orange Whip after that, then maybe a Impact Snap.

What'd that set you back?

$1,700 used. SkyTrak isn't the best, but gets the job done at this price range. Do not buy an Optishot.

Net and mat?

How much room do you need? We have a small spare bedroom without a bed. Could potentially use that space

My net is a nice one, but my mat is crap. Like $300ish.

I got 9-1/2' ceilings, but I'm still not comfy hitting driver. No issue with irons at all.

I hit 200 balls every two days, maybe more lately. Mostly just using the SkyTrak games and range.

Courses here are open even though we have a stay-at-home mandate. In fact, golfing was expressly offered as one way folks can get outside while continuing to adhere to social distancing guidelines. I have tee times for tomorrow and Friday, so we'll see how that goes. One thing for sure, I will not share a cart so they'd better be cool with all 4 of us having carts (if it's a 4-some).

The Sultan

As long as people are properly social distancing, golf courses should be open.  The Wisconsin State Parks are open and free of fees.  Getting out and getting around in the open air should be encouraged.

GooooMarquette

Since there's a thread about golf, I'll ask: why are ball washers so high off the ground? I'm only 5'9", and I can never get mine in without standing on something.
