Bumping this ...

Going to Chicago for a few days to visit the grand-twins, and visit will include Jan 1, when MU opens BE play at Creighton.

If Kirkwood is open, I like the looks of it online -- good specials on their website, and their very first FB post is a bunch of folks in MU garb getting ready for NDakSt game.

We used to live just a few blocks away and I did go there a couple times, but that was long ago and it wasn't for MU games.

So, have those who have gone there this season been pleased with the experience? Anybody planning to be there night of Jan. 1?

I may be there that night if this whole flu/pneumonia thing clears up. I live a few blocks away so I normally go there for games

Make 82 buy a round for the group.

I'm curious about it being an MU bar now so I'll probably pop in

Sorry to hear you're under the weather. So you like it for MU games?

If the group is my son and I ... you're on!

FWIW ... just got this message back from the Kirkwood folks re 1/1/20 vs Creighton:

Yes, we will be open -- and the Marquette bball game will be on our TV's with our basketball specials!

FYI - There's also a "bar" in Lake County with an open invite that has every away game on a 10' screen and serves free beer & popcorn.

But there's also Christmas decorations in the tree out front right now, so caveat emptor.

I have nothing against Christmas decorations when they are put up by those who celebrate Christmas in front of their own Christmas-celebrating houses. I actually enjoy looking at some of the more interesting, elaborate displays ... though I do chuckle sometimes when those displays are still on display in February.

Of course, you know all of that, Benny, but I thought I'd play along.

Happy New Year!

MU Fan in Connecticut

There's a house in my town that the last 5 years or so has put up a Cousin Eddie display.  They dressed a mannequin to look like Eddie from Christmas Vacation in a robe and the flap hat with cigar in mouth holding some tubing like he's emptying the RV bilge tank.  I laugh every time I drive by.

With sound?

This place looks too posh to be a sports bar.  I mean, look at the walls.

Didn't ask about sound. Muted won't stop me from going there. If it's important to you, though, send a quick message through FB. They answered my query in less than 2 hours.

It's not posh unless things have really changed. I went there more than a few times as an underager. Plus they've catered to IU and Nebraska getting large crowds for them for years. Plus have a large rowdy trivia night.

Posh is not a word I would ever use.

Sound is usually yes. I would imagine so for this game.

I am pretty sure that "posh" and "Marquette" have never been used in the same post on Scoop until now. I mean, this is a place that thinks Arby's is fine dining.

Depends on which Arby's ... though, admittedly, none are as posh as Real Chili!

I don't know why I remember this, but evidently "Marq" is posh, "Marquette" is not.

Had the game on numerous TVs, and yes they had sound.

It was my first time, and it was a good MU crowd. Unfortunately, our lads didn't play well, so the handful of Creightoners that were there were the ones who got to celebrate.

Generally, enjoyed the experience and will go back next time I'm in Chicago and an MU game is being played.

Even got to meet JakeBarnes and his lovely wife. Good people.

Commonwealth is a Chicago MU bar.  On the homepage, gameday specials.

https://www.commonwealthchicago.com/

At commonwealth. There's literally nobody else here.

The cheese curds are legit though

Edit: a few more people showed up but still nothing compared to the old days at the schoolyard

I was at Commonwealth last year for the UW game and it was packed with MU people.  I wanted to head over for tonight's game, but unfortunately I wasn't able to make it.  Maybe for NMD.

Vander Blue Man Group

So what's the best choice for the Butler game in the Chicago area?  Kirkwood's, Old Town Pub, or Commonwealth?  Schoolyard used to be the choice.

Need the sound on but atmosphere and food and drinks are important.

Been going to commonwealth. Solid cheese curds, stadium cup beer specials, sound on, etc. can't speak to the atmosphere, nothing will compare to the old schoolyard

Definitely the most convenient location for me followed by Kirkwoods. Thanks.
