He's the next Paul Pressey!(for those of you old enough to remember who he was)

The original "point forward", as I recall.  For the Bucks.  Played the Nellie, of the fish tie.  :-)
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

When players can get paid, Oso Brewing can pay Oso.

He might have been the first to be called a "point forward." Larry Bird was a pretty good one before that, though.

Magic was the original point forward.

Marques Johnson claims he and Nelson coined the phrase during the 1984 playoffs, when due to injuries, Marques ran the offense from his forward position.
Del Harris was an assistant to Nelson when Pressey was playing.
Harris said he called Pressey a point forward after he had originally used the term with the Rockets for Rick Barry and Robert Reid in the early 80's.

Most folks consider Magic the best point guard ever. I don't know anybody who ever claimed he was a forward, not on offense anyway.

There was a quote in SI when Pressey was at Tulsa by an opposing coach saying that Pressey was so quick he could play tennis against himself.

Though, he really played more like a point forward.  He was all over the place.  Great rebounder as he averaged 7.6 rpg for his collegiate seasons.  Was at the SLC F4 in ‘79 for the Magic/Bird/Aguirre fest.  Magic was beyond just a PG.  He even played center in the playoffs for the Lakers

Strong argument could be made for Magic as GOAT

I'm not a big fan of the silly semantic arguments, but ...

Magic is regarded by most as the greatest PG ever.

Just because he was tall and he could rebound and play D against bigger guys -- and even play center in one of the most memorable NBA Finals performances ever -- doesn't mean he wasn't a guard on offense.

Those who can't tell the difference between the way Magic played PG and the way Pressey, Pippen and Bird played point forward ... come on!

Good thing I'm not a fan of silly semantic arguments, eh? 8-)

I like how the perceived skillsets of Oso and Lewis will complement each other.

Yep.

PS, Magic usually did not guard the opposing PG either.  Not really a lot different than LeBron or Giannis.

That was Byron Scott's or Michael Cooper's job.

Except Magic had the basketball from beginning to end every game -- certainly every playoff game.

And no matter how good they are (and they are great) nobody ever will call LeBron or Giannis PGs.

Agreed MU82. Magic was a true point guard. Perhaps it was because back then positions were more clearly defined, but I've never thought of or heard anyone refer to Magic as anything but a point guard. (and I'm well aware of him playing center in the finals)

Most of those rebounds and inside hoops in college were not from the PG position (he could not shoot outside in college).  He really. was the first point forward, just did not have the nomenclature then.

I like how the perceived skillsets of Oso and Lewis will complement each other.

And complement Theo, with the ability to stretch the defense and defend multiple positions. The biggest question mark might be on the boards. We'll be losing two stud rebounders in Ed and Jayce. That's where Garcia would really help.
