Markus now has an incredible 25 games with 30 or more points.

Maravich had 28 games over 50.

In his three seasons he never averaged fewer than 43 points per game.

Incredible. I said it in another thread but to me the difference in his game this year is his ability to finish in traffic. His handle also appears much tighter which has helped him do this.

Agreed on the handle. His numbers for finishing in traffic at the rim are actually not very good this year, but he got calls on drives in the second half that it doesn't seem he has been getting all that much. I think the biggest thing he's got going right now is that he has an unreal ability to score at every level out to nearly 30 feet. He had Gtown on a string basically today. Stopped and popped, drove to the rim, stepbacks.......unbelievable offensive exhibition by Markus today. Gtown had no answer for all the different ways he attacked them. I was concerned he may run out of gas, but it was nice to see McEwen and Jayce make some big plays down the stretch to help out.

Would love to see if he only had 60-70% backing on LSUScoop back then

plus scored another 741 on the freshman team.  Combined frosh and varsity total of over 4400 points.
The freshmen would almost fill the arena for the early game, and a majority of the crowd left before the 3-win varsity played.

I believe that Pistol Pete received  large ovations at road games. Can you confirm that or not?

My biggest issue with Howard is the missing pieces around him. I think I would like him a lot more if he was needed to take so many shots. Part of of my negative bias stems from the lack of having a complete team. So, it comes down to my belief that Wojo has not put together a complete team.

One of the most incredible MU games I've personally witnessed, Al McGuire's 1970 NIT team held Pistol to 20 pts. at The Garden in the tournament semi-final in something like 25% field goal shooting. As the New York Post sports headlines exclaimed the next day, "Pistol Pete Met Defeat," hey?

That is great day in MU history. Shutting down Pistol was one for the ages. Were you at the game?

Yes,up close and personal as an MU freshman. I had the great fortune of attending Marquette during its most successful run in its basketball history. Freshman year=NIT Champs...last year of dental school=NCAA Champs and all the glory in between, hey?

I watched Pete play in the Milwaukee Classic and he was truly as amazing. He was quick, a great ball handler and could shoot from anywhere on the court. He w a s unstoppable. Like Markus he wasn't a ball hog just the best player on the court.  And consider he scored 40+ points when there weren't 3 point shots.

No need to apologize. If your urging reaches a deity's ear, and it produces victory, that's peachy keen!

This.  And despite my extreme happiness that the Warriors beat Pete at the Garden, he was hung over from a night of debauchery.  He had the troubles until much later in life.

MU was physically intimidating and won most games before they even started back in those days. We were truly the number two program after UCLA.

Not only did we shut down Pete in that NIT run but we also contained Dr J. That particular NIT field was incredible.

Markus used every trick in his bag to score 42 against the Hoyas, and Marquette needed every one of them, as well as some help from his assistants.
