Is it time to boycott the BIG EAST TOURNAMENT.
The tournament is all about selling tickets and filling seats.  The T.V. contract is another matter and settled.
If the final four teams were Marquette, DePaul, Creighton and Butler or Xavaier, how many fans would be at the Garden?
It is all about the local teams, the Big East Five, GT. SH. SJU, V, AND P.
Call me a cynic, I'll accept that or prove me wrong.
I understand that we have nowhere to go other than the NCAA tournament, I'll take that.  At heart we are still an independent.

I emailed Commissioner Val letting know it is becoming nearly unwatchable due to such poor, um, "officiating".  About all I'm willing to commit in terms of my time. I hope MU formally challenges officiating as a whole in BEast to effect positive change.

Weak bull puckey.  MU fans (rightfully) feel hosed by the officiating and your solution is boycott the Big East tourney.  Frustration trumps reason.

Vogue, I thought your post was silly. Then I reflected on how the eastern teams both got some home cooking last night. We were at the other end from the fracas and were screened. Those at home got a far better view. We like to come to NYC to see family members, but I do think there is a bias to promote what you referred to. I may rethink attending next year.

marquette09

Interesting theory.   Assuming Marquette is top 2 in the conference next year (I know big assumption) it would make quite the statement to boycott.   I don't necessarily agree with the idea, but it would make quite the statement.

vogue65

Where are the guys with the data?  What are the stats?
There is more than enough data to see bias, if in fact one exists.
In the city we say, "business is business", is that what is going on?

BTW, I live in New Jersey and would not go another Seton Hall game if you paid me.

I know MU enjoys selling tickets to the toirnament and that the program enjoys $$$$ from the sales, but pride and character trumps money.  We are Marquette and not second class cousin's from Wisconsin.

Seriously.  Boycotting because we arent good enough to beat a team with bad reffing added in the mix?????

We missed a crap ton of free throws that could have iced the game for us.   Our star did not perform like a true star.   We couldnt hit open shots down the stretch.

You get boycotting from that????? ThAt is the equivalent of a kid on the playground taking his ball and going home.

We are an OK team this year.  Not a great team. And last few weeks aside from one glimmer of hope we are really a sub par team.   If we have more than 2 games left that would be a shock.

You missed the point.  What about the past 8 years of playing at "The Garden"?

Our star was hurt, our two best players kicked out when they were shutting down their best player.....but you, the diehard fan, says nothing about that.  You, the diehard fan, ignores it completely as if it didn't even happen.

The trouble is, it will sound like an excuse because we've never won the national championship, but winning just isn't all that important to me." Al McGuire

I support the boycott.

Anecdotally, this morning, 2 distant family members who do not watch much college basketball, called to tell me the game was rigged.  One of them is indifferent to college basketball and could care less about Marquette (was actually calling to laugh at me).

Irrespective of whether you believe the BET is fixed.  Last night's game was a black eye for the conference.

Agree. Beyond stupid. We lost the game, move on. Team should be pissed off and angry for NCAA. I like that setup. We are hardly the first team that has had bad calls. To think we should boycott is childish.

If the casino is rigged, why play.

An analysis of the record will show a pattern of bias, or not.

So true.  Next year I'll take my interest elsewhere for the week between the end of the season and the NCAA Tournament.

I didn't change it; I was responding to another post. Scream at the guy who brought up casinos.

Add-in 2 of my friends.  We were planning for next year's BET before last night's game.

I have a plan for next year.  Use the season to be highly ranked, go to "The Garden" for their bogus tournament and play our second team and practice new plays.  Use it as a warm up game for our deep run in the NCAA, a real tournament.  Don't risk our physical or mental assets.

Agree, let the Big East Commissioners get their dream SJU - Villanova match-up for ticket sales, and Marquette can use the extra week for NCAA Tourney practice.

Right on bro.

warriorfred

Kind of reminds me of the Great Midwest Conference deciding every tournament should be in Dayton.  I always thought it was strange that the Great Midwest Conference wanted Dayton to be the face of the conference.

vogue65

The Big East is a cabal, T.V., the Garden, NYC clout, old Big East delusions.
