Jamal
« on: February 12, 2019, 08:21:33 PM »
Great to see him finally get minutes.   Never understood why he didnt play at all most of this season?

I’m sure the popular reason folks will say is because of bailey’s defense.   I never thought Cain was a defensive liability, and I think he’s the most athletic player in our team

Really happy for Jamal.  While he wasn’t playing, he was always a huge cheerleader on the bench, and never seemed down.

Hope Wojo starts playing him a lot more.

Him and Bailey both can offer things. Jamal is the better shooter by a lot. Better rebounder.

Bailey better defender and more secure with ball.

Really hope Jamal is someone who can stay with the program tho. He’s got a lot of game

If Joey keeps struggling, Cain will get more minutes.

Bailey usually takes his minutes but Bailey is not playing well today.

The popular reason is the accurate reason.

But I agree with everything you say.

I like Jamal. But I think his shooting figures got a little inflated last year on some wide open looks late in the year. Similar to the shots Sacar has been knocking down lately. They're both good enough to hit those, but not quite what I'd call good shooters. He's got a role to play somewhere when Joey or Brendan aren't bringing their A game, but I don't think he's going to get put in late in the game when we need shooters any time soon.

Problem is Bailey isn’t hitting those tho, at all.

Jamal isn’t a sniper by any means. But he’s the considerably better all around.
 shooter right now.

Both guys should get minutes tho no doubt

Jamal can be good but he also was TO city earlier this year.  I’m glad he is getting to play and is playing well tonight.  Good to see.

Cain shot around 47% from 3 last year - that's not a fluky shooter.

Cain is one of the most athletic players Marquette has seen. It is a mental game for him.

Jamal and Joey have the same problem.  They both get bumped off the ball and turn it over as a result.

Joey and Jamal are also the two youngest players on the team. Don't know if that has anything to do with it but might factor in to toughness.

I meant to say they are both just leaner. They simply need to put on some weight and live in the weight room this offseason.

This.

Really hope he has a great offseason honing his game, getting stronger, etc.

If he can carve out a role with at least decent minutes in the non conference season next year and build up that confidence, who knows what can happen. By no means should we be writing off anyone with that type of athleticism before he becomes an upperclassman. Hoping him all the best.

I really enjoy when Jamal is on the court. He was smart with the ball tonight and he is crazy athletic. I thought he had a great freshman season and feel he should be getting more consistent PT.

TO's need to improve, yes, but he should be just as equal as Bailey in PT. In my opinion. Hopefully tonight's solid effort  will be a springboard to getting back in the rotation.

This. The most underrated part of Wojo's coaching is that he has a very, very nice feel for this kind of thing.

Jamal is a real nice kid. Super team guy. Happy to see him getting some quality run tonight. We are going to need his athleticism the further we go in the tournament.

Loved how Jamal played tonight. If he continues to play that way he will take some of his minutes back from Bailey.
