Not-a-Fan of In-Game hosts
« on: November 07, 2018, 10:50:33 AM »
We added a little NBA-style atmosphere after Crean arrived with the lights-out introductions, which I can tolerate and many seem to like.  But a lights-out segment during an ingame timeout and all the loud-mouth-shouting and yapping during timeouts makes me feel like I'm at a Bucks game.  Not that I mind it at a Bucks a game, but that's part of the NBA-showtime atmosphere, and I prefer to hear more of the MU Band and keeping this an oldschool college atmosphere.

I was wondering what the fan base's reaction to the hype crew was going to be.

They were fine. A few bumps (go Eagles) but kept the fans and students involved.

Old school college atmosphere bad for recruiting.

I have to say, I didn't realize turning lights off in intros upset some people.

On that subject, when is Giannis going to film his "Marquette, we can't hear you!"  video clip?  That'll help recruiting.  :)

No reason for him to be a fan of any other college team.
Have some patience, FFS.

Clearly ticked we didn’t pursue Kostas harder. Is the owner of Bel-Air an alum?

I think the floor MC's are fine. The Go Eagles, was weird. Plus, as others have pointed out in the other threads, the women needs to stop yelling into the mic during a random timeout with a student finding the Golden Eagle or about a t-shirt.

To be fair, it is hard to say "Go Golden Eagles" without sounding a little bit like Inspector Gadget.

Right after the anthem we always had a designated barker yell out Give'em hell, Al. That is old School atmosphere that raised the rafters before each game and during time outs at the old arena. Al had no problem recruiting.

Well I'm sure the first basketball coach used to brag about indoor showers in the locker room.

Sorry, the voice was painful.  Think the marines played her voice for Noriega.

I haven't been to a basketball game at Notre Dame since they redid the place, but every single timeout was just the band playing the fight song.  Literally every timeout.  It was awful.

It really made me appreciate the timeouts at the Bradley Center.

I thought it was great. Contemporary NBA atmosphere for sure, it will undoubtedly set us apart for recruiting. The student section was really into it, and that should be priority #1 with this stuff IMO

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that high school basketball players today have some different tastes from high school basketball players in the 1960s and 1970s.

I don't mind their antics, but that female MC's voice is so shrill we almost couldn't stand it.  My GF held her hands over her ears several times because her voice was so piercingly loud.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Yeah, the female MC is way too much.

I don't think she was bad, but whoever was controlling the levels on the soundboard needs to be fired.

Too much treble.  Not enough bass.  And that's not a reference to Meghan Trainor.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Only the first game of the season. She will be first team Big East MC before season's end.

I went to what I believe might have been our last away game there.  Sometimes they do an Irish Jig instead of playing the fight song.

Also the music should never, ever be louder than the in-game announcer.

I like the music. I don’t like people talking.

People can talk at halftime.  Music only.  Play music, a combination of fun, upbeat music appropriate for the situation, with band opportunities other times. Turning the lights down at times is fine.
