Homer is really good!

I think Tony will grow into it. Knows the game, good personality and easy voice to listen to.

I understand there are a lot of fans from WI who are so used to Homer and enjoy him, but I've always found his call of MU games to be extremely grating. Mac made it somewhat palatable. Hopefully Tony will with time too. Fortunately most games are on tv.

Never for me! It's like a spoon. I don't let it bother me. Most I find are pretty dam good. If MU is good, the better crews will work there games.

This metaphor of a spoon is lost on me.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Kinda OT but since the game was streamed, is there a replay of said stream available anywhere?

Interesting that Homer’s pants were pulled down last night, hearing him bitch off mic, at halftime about Tony’s comments why the team be nervous/ rusty in their first game. He said, He “isn’t nervous when he plays tennis.” Also, hearing him bitch off mic about Markus’ foul 40 feet from the basket.   ::). Big MU homer, huh?

You can't criticize a stupid play and still be a homer?

I realized last night that "missed the layup" for Homer could be any shot within 2 feet of the basket. For years, I thought MU was dribbling with a straight path to the basket and missed the shot, when I listened on the radio.

Look broadcasting is hard, especially a game like that. It wasn't great but your first run never is. It should get better just because of that.

I’d perfer you on play-by-play or color. Not saying you are bad. I would legitimately want you on the crew.

I think you are being way too hard on Tony.  He did fine.  Homer is over the top, of course, and that is fine.  But it means the color guy should probably be much more reserved.  Two hyper loud guys would be a bit too much.

Tony had a lot of good basketball stuff as far as positioning, passing, etc.  The stuff that you'd hear from someone who knows that game or was a coach, etc.  This was an exhibition game and his first game.  Give Homer and him a bit of time.  I wasn't too impressed by Mac early on, but he really developed and was great.  I'll never forget when Buzz ripped into Mac for asking a normal soft ball question and misinterpreted it as criticism.  How Mac help back and was so professional, is a credit to Mac.

This.

I'm guessing most announcers have less than stellar first gigs. If he's still repeating the same lines at the end of the season, MU may have a decision to make.

You should have heard Mike Shannon when he first joined the St. Louis Cardinals broadcast team. He was way beyond awful. One had to wonder whether Shannon could breathe and broadcast at anything close to the same time.

He certainly has not become Jack Buck in the years since, but Shannon is servicable and has become a beloved figure in St. Louis. It took time but in time, he learned to understand what he could and could not do as a broadcaster and his observations on the game aren't bad.

I'm sure the same will be the case with Tony.

You probably would have, but every time someone mentions McAdams around here, the thread gets shut down.

This is painful. And you can tell homer is trying to help him out, but it’s just terrible.
