At this point, I doubt he wants to come to MU and redshirt, I am sure that was not even discussed.  Now once he gets to MU and the staff sees he will not play then
maybe.   But you do not recruit a kid to redshirt.  Every player thinks he is good enough to start or why recruit him.

I don't entirely agree with this.  I think when you hear stories about the best recruiters, they do a good job of laying out a plan for the player.  Here is where you are good...here is where you should improve...here is how we can help you improve...  And finally, here is the role that we think you can play.

So do they say "we are going to bring you here and redshirt you."  Doubtful.  But they just don't give them platitudes about starting.  Players know they have work to do.

If they're under the radar, they're not easy to find. I don't know many programs that regularly bring in high school players who are really talented but ignored or under-appreciated by virtually everybody else.

Did Bo Ryan really see the potential for Frank Kaminsky (ranked a 3-star prospect by 247Sports, just outside the Top 200) to become the national player of the year? Maybe. But he barely got off the bench until his junior season. Whatever Frank's potential, it certainly wasn't evident even to his coach halfway through his college career.

Jae Crowder actually isn't some amazing find for Buzz. He was named junior college player of the year and led his team to the 2010 NJCAA championship. Sure, the junior college ranks don't get the same attention as the AAU circuit. But it's not as though Jae was going unrecognized for his talent at that point; he was also recruited by UNLV, Georgia Tech and Texas Tech, among others.
