Anyone got a scouting report on him? Seems to be one of the least heralded (at the very least discussed) recruits in some time, with limited available slots. He is heading into his senior year correct?

Welcome Dexter! Look forward to learning more about his game.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

I like the sound of this:

https://www.prephoops.com/2018/04/recruiting-report-dexter-akanno/

Akanno's versatile game, complete with an explosive first step, second-level blow by speed and court vision allows him to play either guard spot offensively, while his strong frame, coupled with length and good lateral speed, lends to his ability to defend both guard spots.

Sounds like a bright kid too.

Welcome aboard, Dexter!

Long combo guard........Wojo saw him when they played against Mannion's AAU team. Supposed to be an excellent defender.....played for an unaffiliated AAU team so under the radar.

Buzz also offered.

I think it's safe to assume with commitments from Joe,  Koby and now this kid the days of playing 2 midget guards are over.

That's about all I got for now.......I'm sure we will learn more.

Might be a great redshirt candidate next season.

Looks damn good against seemingly low level competition in some YouTube videos. Here's a short one. Great handle and appears to be able to shoot.

Very excited for this one. Welcome to MU, Dexter.

Wearing No. 10?  Proof that Sam is going pro after this year.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

Looks like WOJO will field "all" combo guards in the future......

The game is moving away from a PG and SG label.....

Now we wait for the Mannion decision.....

Got a chance.....

Considering Arizona may still be in trouble and Duke and Villanova have players in front of him......

We shall see......

Was worried about everyone (including Dexter) being so slow, then I realized this was from 2 years ago. Here is a video from the past year and its a completely different story. Looks very promising: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIK1_VCOZF8

Welcome aboard!  IMO, DA is a project guard who may not play much next year, may even red shirt, but will be ready to play both guard positions in the 20-21 season, with upperclassmen like Elliot and McEwen.  An investment.

Didn't Ted call this one in the recruiting thread?  Well done, sir.

Welcome to MU Dexter. Great Choice.

Dexter is a huge get for MU. As discussed on the recruiting thread he is a true diamond in the rough. This young man is exactly the type of player we need to be in the upper echelons of the Big East.

Corey Evans agrees with his coach

Great addition for Marquette landing 2019 Blair Academy guard Dexter Akanno. Underrated guard out of California that can really, really defend, an asset that will be used immediately next year.

Check out TedBaxer's  posts I think he was the first to see and mentioned him on this board.  I think this is a great 3-4 year get.

Haha same! Wow what a difference those 2 years made. Love a late riser like this. Looks very solid fundamentally

On another board, I believe Ted (who has been vociferous in his support of Akanno) said he preferred DA to Mannion if we only got one. I think the expected years here played into that, but he's a big fan.

Classic late bloomer.  Looks like a REALLY good prospect.  Haven't seen a guy at MU use a great spin move like that in a LONG time.  Can't really teach that.  Release point a little lower on shot than you would like, but has great jab step to be able to clear necessary space.

Wojo and Co beat Buzz on this kid.  Wojo and staff doing a great job on recruiting trail.  If he can continue to improve as an in-game coach....bright future for MU hoops.

Lighthouse 84

The kid shows good range and quickness in the YouTube video.  Looking forward to him at MU.

Another guard with length, athleticism and toughness........I like it.

Probably don't need him to,play right away which gives him time to continue to develop.

You can see why Buzz wanted him.......fits the kind of athlete that Buzz likes to recruit.

That nice to hear.  You're absolutely right about the years, I also likes the 3-4 yrs to the one and done for probably Mannion.  I think this is a great fit for Dexter and MU.  I always like Wojo's recruiting eye. I think we have a winner. but time will tell.

That said, I'd happily still take both ;)
