Poll

How do you view the overall state of Marquette's basketball program today?

A -- On the right path, headed for being a strong if not elite program. It's just a matter of time.
B -- Good program with some weaknesses that need to be addressed in the off-season.
C -- Average program for an upper level NCAA school. Needs to improve substantially to become strong if not elite.
D -- Borderline program that has significant deficiencies, including coaching and on-court personnel.
F --  Abject failure. Burn the thing to the ground and start over.

Damn straight, though I gave them a "B" and I do think we are headed in the right direction.  ;D

I'm a tough grader, but I show up when I'm in town and watch when I am not.

Giving the program a "B" for where it is now is not being a tough grader. This Warrior fan will be ecstatic if you're correct!

In all seriousness, couldn't this thread/poll have waited until we see what the offseason brings in terms of reinforcements for 2018-19?

If Wojo lands one of the best grad transfer PGs and also a top recruit, I would think folks might be a little more optimistic overall than if we go into next season with the status quo.

Agree. Honestly this is also thoroughly discussed after every loss. I think people were firmly entrenched in their positions about 100 threads ago

I would have given Buzz a B his first five years. We were not elite, but we were very good. We had a greater chance of reaching the Sweet 16 under Buzz than we currently have reaching the NCAA tournament.

Not sure I agree. There's a difference between venting after a loss, particularly after a big loss and views about the direction in which we are headed. One of the reasons why I did this now is to move away from the anger of not getting in the tournament; of losing games we should not have lost; and, asking objectively, what do you really think?

So far, I'm surprised. The "B" grade is by far the leader in the first turn. It's not what I expected given the animus of not making the tournament and of the general "fire Wojo" concerns. My sense is that most folks who are Scoopers rather know the challenges our coach faced when Buzz torched the place. We want that Final Four Chick suggested would make me happy (hint, Chick, it would) but we know Rome was not built in a day.

I'm not clairvoyant but it will be interesting to compare the results this year to any polling on the same subject done a year from now. I'm hoping MU 82 is right and we have that Point Guard who will lead us and we've got an inside presence that's gnarly and unforgiving, I doubt there will be any "D"s or "F"s and a lot more "A"s.

And Gail Pudvan for head cheerleader!

You guys do realize Gail Pudvan is at least 60 years old?

Yeah, believe it or not. She may even be a grandmother.

Would you want someone saying that about YOUR grandmother?

There will be D's and F's. Unless you remove those options from the poll, of course (and especially if you include Arby's as an option).

I agree with you on the positivity - I think most of us hold a reasoned, positive outlook with some caveats.

My point was that this is the most thoroughly discussed topic on the board, conversations tend to veer in this direction. That's all.

Gee, if we think Arby's is excellent dining, why don't we just take some old blue books, remove the staples and eat them too.

Bet they taste the same as an Arby's Roast beef if you put some Horsey Sauce on them.

This, big difference if we swing and miss on our grad transfer vs. landing our man.

Do you think that determines if we make NCAA or not?
It's not about ME,
It's about US.

As of what we have right now unless one of the guards take a big step on handles, yes could go from maybe to it would be a disappointment "fire Wojo"

Well, how do you feel now?

Has anyone who gave the program a "C" changed their mind and upgraded to a "B". Likewise, any Bs headed to "A"s?

I'm not the best to ask because I never take these polls. I felt the state of the program was good before we got JC. Now I'm feeling all the better about it.
