I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

I try not to take SOTG too seriously (I know - shame on me!) ... but there's really no reasonable claim to Theo getting this over Sam (and probably not over Markus).

We need role players to play like Theo did to help us win games, but somebody's got to do the heavy lifting. Which is what Sam and Markus did.

Loved Theo's game - all 14 minutes of it. Looking forward to more. Not close to SOTG, though.

It's Sam.  Let me explain why...

21 (points)
33 minutes = 3 x 11
3 + 11 = 14
3 (rebounds ) + 1 (assist) + 3 (steals)  = 7
14 + 7 = 21
21 + 21 = 42

That should clear it up for everyone that feels they need an explanation.

That's pretty clear.  42 is the answer to life, the Universe, and everything.

When Markus realizes he is trailing both Sam and Andrew for SOTG awards he will finally have the incentive he needs to put together a complete and dominating game.

Way to motivate Scoop. #mindgames

Yeah, I am getting pretty fed up with him doggin' it this season.
Have some patience, FFS.

The Rule 42. Rocky's SOTG rationale all makes sense now.

Reading that involves a towel I think it would be the Rick Majerus rule.

Yep

This doesn't really work but the more accurate list would be:

                   Ortg   Drtg   Total
Matt Heldt           138   91   47
Sam Hauser           124   95   29
Markus Howard   128   102   26
Sacar Anim           127   102   25
Jamal Cain           101   87   14
Theo John            92   93   -1
Andrew Rowsey        84   103   -19
Greg Elliott            53   94   -41
Harry Froling            30   78   -48

O and D rating have their uses....but they are not a great indicator of how a player actually affected the game. If you really think Heldt was 14 points better than Hauser on offense....I have a very nice bridge for sale

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

BM1090

Where are you guys getting an 84 rating for Rowsey? Kenpom has him at 118.6

edit: I'm dumb, this is probably just for the NIU game.

T-Bone

Yeah, I have little idea about how the stats are derived, just throwing that out for discussion.  (I was looking to see if there were WAR stats for a discussion in another thread, and thought about this a bit for the game)

Wait ... seriously ... does this ratings system actually claim that Matt was our best offensive player Monday?

If so, old fogies like me who look at ridiculous stuff like points, rebounds, FG%, A/TO - yeah, I know, stoopid - should celebrate the official death of these new-fangled metrics!

No, because it doesn't account for usage rate (also an advanced stat)

Heldt's usage rate was 4%, M2N's was 29%, Hauser's was 22%

Advanced stats would tell you Markus & Sam were far more valuable offensively (as would the eye test and traditional box score, obviously)

Agree with all of that, especially the part about the eye test and the box score. Most of us Scoopers are pretty good at watching a game and saying, "He was good, he wasn't." Even when we disagree, it's usually a matter of degree.

Most of us.
