MU to red shirt Ike Eke #mubb

So I guess that settles that.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Good news. He can battle every day in practice against the rest of the bigs , workout hard and be a force next year.

And for this year, at least, we don't need to listen to you constantly complaining about his playing time :)
I mean, OK, maybe he's secretly a serial killer who's pulled the wool over our eyes with his good deeds and smooth jumper - Pakuni (on Markus Howard)

Who would he play over next year? Don't see him over Joey, Bailey, Morrow, John, Frolling or Heldt. He's likely not olaying till his third year after Frolling and Heldt are gone and even then won't crack real minutes till after Morrow is gone

Ike is going to be like Justin Patton or Ethan Happ. Sits out the first year and works on his game. He already has a good body, by the time next year rolls around he could be huge with all the weight work he can put in.

According to Mr. Dodds, the coaches have said he works his tail off and always has a good practice. That is a very good sign for our future.

Also I continue to believe there is a non zero probability that, given his past discussions, Froling goes pro in Australia after this season. In which case this redshirt of Ike would be even more valuable.

I have no doubt that Ike will work hard and improve his game.  I'll go ahead and say that Ike Eke will not be one of the best players in the entire country before the end of the 2019-2020 season.

Quentin Grimes:  Hey guys, I met Ike Eke once, he's a cool dude.  Great body and really good soccer player.

Perry Ellis: Q, we know you tell us all the time.  Now stop talking I have to finish my dissertation.

It's official.  Ike redshirt.

brewcity77

I'm going out on a limb and guessing Eke will be neither Big East Freshman of the Year or a First Round NBA pick after his freshman season.

No, one of Rowsey, Howard, Heldt, Cheatham, Anim, Hauser, or Froling told Hoopster that Eke plans to redshirt.

Guess my player source was right.  This is the best situation for this kid.  I really think it has helped Sacar as he would have gotten no PT time last year, now he has
3 years of playing time.  His game will just get better.  Wisconsin has done this for years, the players that redshirted did improve and it works.  You only redshirt a kid
if you feel he has the potential to be good.  Ike has the body, foot work to improve.  With Morrow out as well, those 2 can go at each other everyday, should help both.
Plus with 2 incoming frosh, and one being 21 already, it levels out the classes.  If Bailey is any good, he will never stay 4 years.

Well, not official. The plan/desire has been to redshirt him.

We may be down to 7 available scholarship players on Friday. The two injured guys are guards. Had they been C/F, might be a different conversation.. and always could go that way. I think it would take a lot to play him, but let's say player A and B (bigs.. not saying names because I don't want to jinx anyone) go down in game 1 and are going to be out for many weeks... you might need to play Eke.

Let me restate.  Wojo publicly announced.  Things could always change.  I just choose fewer words and was less precise.   ;D

AZMarqfan

Great news.  I've wanted MU to use the redshirts for a long time now.  We finally have enough depth that we have been able to the last two years.  Burning Cadougan's  redshirt was so short-sighted.

So it's MSM game night. Here early, was space cadet and thought it was 7 tip.

Anyway, Ike was in uniform and early warm ups/practicing with team. John Heldt and him doing post drills.

I am ignorant of red shirt procedure but is that typical. I though Sacar was generally in street clothes last year but could be remembering wrong.

Anyway, here we go...,.

Yes, its usual.  He'll probably be in street clothes for the game.  He's allowed to do shoot arounds.

He's also allowed to sit on the bench in a uniform and warm up with the team before both halves.  As long as he doesn't enter the game at any point, he still retains the ability to redshirt.

That makes sense. I would think actual playing time is what NCAA cares about.

The only commonalities between these three, is that they all took a red shirt.
Nothing more than that, at least at this point.
