Audioslave was very underwhelming.

Apparently, your taste in music is underwhelming.  But keep kicking out the dmb jams.

There are stories coming out that Cornell's death wasn't suicide, more like Hutchence's or Carradine's deaths

hmmmm.....well, if the facts come out, it should be easy enough to figure out.
Have some patience, FFS.

I think we can pretty safely assume that this "story" will come out every time a male celebrity is found hanged.

Audioslave was very underwhelming, yes.

1. Morello was supposed to be the featured instrument in this setup. Cornell was supposed to compliment Morello when they talked about the supergroup, but instead Cornell and the group had continued musical disgareements. Cornell dominated a lot of the tracks which leads into...
2. I'm not a Chris Cornell fan, I think he's talented and is a good singer, but his voice isn't for me. Never really did it. I know this is an unpopular opinion.
3. Cornell's vocals seemed much more whiny with Audioslave than Soundgarden/TOTD
4. Audioslave was too sterile, too radio and frankly got as watered down. Paralleling RHCP
5. It wasn't RATM, so I'll have that jealously forever.

Freddie Mercury is a very solid choice. Didn't pop into my head when I first saw the question but he definitely belongs at or near the top

Mercury instantly popped into my head. Amazing, amazing voice.

Amy Winehouse ... first time I heard her I was like, "Wow, she is awesome." And I didn't even like the song! But yes, hard to top a younger Aretha.

Neil Young, now THERE'S a voice for you!

Actually, my first impression of him was the same as anybody's first impression of him, but Neil is so brilliant that I became a fan of his music and realized he did a tremendous job of writing for his voice. As he has grown older, his voice has smoothed out and I now find it "expressive."

Here's a great example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtzKliO3cQg

Whenever I listen to this song, I think about my daughter (now 30 and getting married next year), and I tear up. Seriously.

Ooo, just thought of Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes. Hell of a voice.

Nads, I hear you. The bond between a daddy and his little girl can be incredibly strong, especially if they live far apart. I vowed I wouldn't cry at my daughter's wedding and I didn't. But, I let the flood gates wild open about a week prior to the event. It's ok and all good.

Oh, I'm a weeper from way back. Not the least bit ashamed. Cried when my son got engaged, too!

I feel like I have to give Cat Stevens and Sam Cooke at least get a mention.

But really, for my money, it doesn't get any better than when Michael Bolton sings when a man loves a woman.

A couple of great Chris Cornell moments that really display his range, not only vocally but also stylistically.

^Nothing Compares 2 U -- Sinead O'Connor cover

^ Both Redemption Song covers, the first is on stage with his daughter

^And I Will Always Love You -- Whitney Houston

When you contrast these with how he rips through Rusty Cage or Bleed Together, wow, to me, he could just do it all.  Damn.

Both versions are dynamite.  When i heard yesterday that this is a Prince song i had a "did i know that?  i feel like i should've known that.....holy crap Prince was talented" moment.

As an honorable mention in the female category:  Annie Lennox needs a shout out, she can rip into a tune.

Yep. It's a  Prince song. So is the Bangles song "Manic Monday".

And Annie Lennox rocks. I attended a Euryrthmics concert in the late 80's and it was great.

Not really.  I just can't believe that people think Bolton has a good voice.  He completely over-sings everything.

This is a gag from the movie Office Space.  If your boss didn't say he needs you to come in tomorrow you should watch the movie.

I've always thought his singing sounds too whiny.  His popularity was always a mystery to me.
