Actually this is what he said:

"The referees have to officiate the play for its own merits. And that makes a really difficult situation. The rule is ... contact that is not an attempt to play the ball or player, specifically designed to stop or keep the clock from running. And when a player puts two hands in the back and doesn't make any attempt to play the ball or the player in front of him, it's an F1 foul."

Translation: It was a really bad call but i have to defend my refs so this is the best I can do.

Is there really anybody out there who wants the officials deciding games instead of the players? And if that means going easy on the technical literal wording of the rule book in the last minute or two, so be it. Use a little common sense.

The point is when the head of officials has to come out and tell the country on national TV why the call was correct, making a big deal of it, it's a terrible and inconsistent look when the exact same thing happens less than 24 hours later and the call made is there exact opposite of what the head of officials just said.

So yeah, they set a precedent, the head of officials went out of his way to explain why that precedent was correct, and it took them less than a day to go against the precedent.

I don't think it was the same at all. Seton Hall's foul had much stronger contact, plus the incidental trip. Hayes didn't get DiVincenzo much at all by comparison.

I thought showing the crying kid multiple times was really of poor taste by CBS.

But this is kind of funny...

Wow, Duane Wilson tweaking Hayes on twitter for comparing his clutch spin move to Jordan.

I know this man did not just compare his fake spin move to Michael Jordan. Bruh gotta chill

He should really stay off Twitter. His obsession with Hayes is pretty pathetic. Last Buzz recruit, hope he goes away.

Ugh...just stop.

CBSSports just had a great Jay Wright stat: He has made it out of the first weekend just ONCE in his last seven tries. Of course, that once was a title.

I despise Wisky, but that was the right call. Not for one second did the Nova player have possession of the ball. Nova choked by missing three FTs and playing miserable defense down the stretch.

Contact that is not an attempt to play the ball or player. It was the same.

Burton putting on his best bad JJJ performance.  Standing around on D, losing his man and jacking up ill advised shots.  Throw in a bad foul and it is a complete performance.

Swanigan though...
He will be a solid NBA player, he can even step out and hit the 3

GooooMarquette

Nice run by the Cyclones.  Deonte can still score.

That's all he can do, and given this team's weaknesses, he's not that missed

Yes he can, but not very efficiently.  9-20.  Zero assists.  He is what he is though, and explosive and exciting scorer and a great individual/kid.

Glad he's having success, he deserves it.

If he was ever dialed in 100% in all facets of the game, he'd be a perennial NBA all-star.  He has the talent.

Come on now. He's a fun athlete to watch. But he's also roughly the size of an NBA PG who has absolutely no ability to do anything beyond athletic. Every single person in the NBA can hang with him athletically, whereas in college very few can. I'd take Vander Blue on an NBA team any day of the week over Burton.

He could play on my team.

6-5 with his strength, athleticism, and ability to score could still find minutes at the next level... if he played defense.

This is what I was referring to.  He is a freak of nature athlete.  If he fought/battled 100% on both ends at all time he could be a Barkley type player.  Problem is he only dials in when he wants to.

Don't know what game you were watching. Spectacular 2nd half, including an unbelievable block of a Swanigan dunk attempt! And zero turnovers - wish our guys were that strong with the ball.

Based on the post time...he posted after first half.  Which was not favorable to ISU.

I posted that when he was 4-13, with zero assists and just standing around watching everyone on D.  That was posted at the end of the 1st half right after making a stupid foul...hence the JJJ impersonation.

He finished making 5 of his last 7.  His block was fantastic.

I really like the kid, he's exciting to watch, see my other posts, but he is an inefficient player, much like JJJ.
