If MU loses to SC, regardless of the way they lose, can we please refrain from the 'woe is me, life sucks, fire Wojo' crap?
Seriously.    A flawed team overcame enough of their weaknesses often enough through superior shooting to win 10 Big East games and make the tournament.     A team that blew multiple double digit second half leads.     A team without a true PF.    A team that played most of the season with 9 scholarship players.     A team that went through a huge line up shake up.     A team that lived and died by the 3 pt shot.     A bad defensive team.   A team without a clear leader or a clear go-to player.     A team with starting guards <6'.    A team whose most talented player is its most erratic player.      A team with a player in a terrible sophomore slump.
This team has thrilled, annoyed, astonished, angered, overperformed, underperformed all season long.    But they beat two top 10 teams in a week.  (don't start on where Creighton ended up or Mo Watson being out.    They were ranked in the top 10 when MU beat them)   How often has that happened?    MU students and fans got a by-God court storming.    And they returned to the dance.
I don't know if MU beats SC.    I highly doubt that MU gets past Duke.     I know that MU has defeated good teams, tournament teams, on the road.     I know MU is highly capable of laying an egg.   It doesn't matter.    It has been a successful season.    Regardless of the outcome Friday night, this team owes no one here any apologies.      So please, when MU loses, and they will, try to not revert to the worst versions of yourselves.   Leave that to the trolls and the haters.

We made the tournament for the first time in 4 years...With a freshman starting point guard, a transfer starting at point guard (from a low mid major), we had Luke in foul trouble every game and out of nowhere came Matt Heldt for a stretch. Wojo did a fantastic job this year....To be in the tourney after some of the ruts this year is amazing. There are some MU fans here arrogant enough about our program to think a 10 is unacceptable, that we should always be in the tourney, etc....but this is progress. Ceiling I saw was NIT and I would have been happy about it at the start of the year.

Our matchup is kinda crap but SC is really an overrated 7 seed. Only issue is location. Hopefully Wojo is rght and Duke fans hang out to cheer for him...

The season was a success.  Anything beyond Friday exceeds expectations.

It has been a great season as a fan. Lots of ups and downs like any good story to add to the drama and emotions to share. The university and team should be proud. Venting is better than apathy, though, I might add, pro or con.

That said, what is with your paragraph formatting lately

Tower - It feels to me like most of MU nation is just glad to be here and that the season is a success regardless of our performance in the tournament.  I don't like this match up.  I'm afraid it will result in a turn over fest, MU will never get into their offense, the crowd will be supporting SC and it could result in a lopsided loss which is not the way you want your season to end.  If MU is competitive and loses by 6-7 I will be satisfied.  Remember this will be Wojo's first NCAA as a HC and this team relies on a lot of young players and no one other than Katin has every played in the NCAA.  Let learn from this experience and expect to make it back next year.

Well said Tower it is/was a hell of a fun year .  the only thing i would add is to stay off the kids.  Between JJ's reaction at the announcement and this ShaggyDu reaction https://twitter.com/SpecSportsWI/status/841117782431404034 this clearly means a LOT more to them than it does to us, i couldn't be happier for them, and it's really heartening that the players understand what it means to the institution.

i hope for JJ and D Wilson's sake they channel that emotion in the right direction.

exactly...very nice for those guys.

It is progress as long as they get back next year. Win or lose its been a great ride..but..as long as they are there you may as well win a game or two..or 3..

It has been an entertaining and fun year.

And, it is not going to end Friday night with South Carolina. The basketball gods put Coach K and Coach Wojo in the same bracket for a reason.

Tune in on Sunday.

Did you change your tune on this? Because if not I'm not sure you deserve to root for them in the tournament

No.  It is progress.  Period.

Next year is next year.  We can debate what the parameters of success should be before the year, and judge the team's performance against those parameters when the season concludes.  But nothing next year's team does impacts the evaluation of this year's team.

Agree with everything you wrote, real tower (as opposed to the fake tower that has infiltrated our site). But alas, it probably is too much to ask.

I don't know why but I just have a feeling we're going to win on a buzzer beater by Sam.  Which means we'll probably lose 58-45 in ugly fashion.

Just glad to be dancing.  A win is gravy.  Hopefully this tournament appearance is the springboard to a very bright future.  Land Joey Hauser and a couple good guards, then we're in business.

You mean Ners in creepy stalker mode.     And thanks.    Are you going to road trip to the game.    It is in your backyard.

I totally agree with the sentiment, and everyone involved deserves credit for getting into the tourney.

That said, I think Friday is a game MU can win. I expect them to win. So, if it's OK, I'm going to be bummed and disappointed if they lose.

We're all going to be bummed and disappointed if we lose.    I am just saying to keep it in perspective and not blow a gasket.

Thanks for sharing that video of Duane - that was great to see just how much it means to him, as well as to JJJ and Luke.  I commented yesterday that I was most happy that those 3 get to experience being a part of March Madness.

The season has run the spectrum for exhilarating highs to incredibly frustrating lows, but too often some people forget that these are just kids who work their ass of for the program and who care a lot about the team and Marquette.  Some of the posters whose attacks on specific players cross the line really should be ashamed of themselves.

I've tried to stay optimistic and realistic throughout the course of the season, which was tough to do at times.  I think we are going to win on Friday and if we don't it'll be a bummer.  But I'll still be proud of this team and what they accomplished this year.  And hopefully this is just the first of another long string of tourney appearances and success.

Tower913

This has been a very fun season of MU basketball.  Best offensive team in MU history.  Number 1, 3-point shooting team in all of college basketball; which can offset so many other deficiencies in the game of basketball, including at times head-scratching coaching decisions.

I know it is probably too much to ask, yet let's hope Wojo plays his best players the most minutes Friday night.  Nothing wrong with losing, when you play your best players the most minutes.

Tower - here's to ya - it needed to be said and you said it perfectly.
Thanks!

Nevermind those coaching decisions that led us to the "best offensive team in MU history."

You're so predictable.

Perfectly stated!

What? It is my God-given right to bash the team when they fail and ignore them when they succeed. Please, who are you to tell me what to think and how dare you judge my manic-depressive condition concerning MU basketball. According to my therapist it is helpful to put my thoughts, no matter how negative, down on paper (i.e.Scoop).

You do know this is too much to ask.
