MU Women's Advance To Big East Championship Game
« on: March 06, 2017, 05:02:17 PM »
I know there is a thread for the Women's Big East Tournament but I thought it deserved it's own thread.

They will play the winner of DePaul/St. John's at the Al tomorrow night at 8:00.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is the first ever Big East Final appearance by either MU team, right?

MU will take on #17 DePaul for the title tomorrow night.

So basically, if they get through the first weekend, they're pretty much a lock to meet up with UConn, the only other team undefeated against ranked teams? ;D

It might not take that long.  I saw a bracketology that had them as an 8 seed playing in Storrs.  Winner gets UConn in the round of 32.

This is why winning tonight is huge, as it might push Marquette off the 7-10 line and into a 6 seed, which would mean avoiding playing 1s and 2s on their home court.  The women's tourney is very chalk-heavy, especially for the 1s and 2s playing at home.

No time like the present to snap that winning streak.   ;D

I think the 3s and 4s play at home too though.

How does the bonus work when playing with quarters? Is there a double bonus?

Fun to watch.  What a fantastic shot to end the 1q.

Question .. what's the benefit to four 10 minute quarters?

Team fouls restart each quarter--other than that I'm not sure.

For the fan, faster pace. Fewer commercial breaks. Don't get into the bonus early and stay there for 12 minutes. I think 4 quarters gives a much better flow to the game. I would love to see the men go to it as well. However, not sure that will happen due to commercial considerations. That's where the money is made. Unless there's longer breaks or guaranteed commercial breaks with certain timeouts, money is too important for the men to make that shift.

To be honest it's my first time watching the women this year, but man are they fun to watch!  Incredible tempo and it looks like the Al is packed.

5 fouls and right to 2 shots each quarter, like the NBA.

Maybe you can explain the math .. I mean, Mens have Media TOs at 16/12/8/4.   Are you saying 4qx10 has fewer than 8 MTOs?

They do breaks at 15/10/5. You get the half in both, but it's 2 fewer MTOs per game.
