Absolutely.  The quality of the facilities is a huge draw in recruiting; probably one of the biggest.  And playing in a state of the art NBA arena with an incredible scoreboard would be way up there.  My comment was only that personalized presentation like in Hoop Dreams would not be allowed.  I have no doubt Marquette will figure out ways to show off the scoreboard to great effect.

Can't make that big of an impact, Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade couldn't even remember where Marquette plays....

The wording from the article, and this thread title, is misleading.

The display will NOT be the largest video board in the NBA. The display will be the largest EQUILATERAL display in the NBA. In a day and age where most new NBA arenas or updated arenas are moving towards wide screen display (see golden 1 center, smoothie king, quicken loans, bankers life fieldhouse etc.), this is an important distinction.

It's unclear to me why anybody would want equilateral when the growing trend is for widescreen display. Furthermore, according to a 2010 MKE JS article, the current bradley center screen is 32 ft x 25 ft. Perhaps the actual display will be larger, but I don't think it will be as drastic as people are making it out to be.

Any ideas as to why no widescreen? Cost-saving? Better for smaller market where consumers will pay less of a premium for sideline versus baseline? Curious as to your thoughts

I guess what I appreciate are the names, detailed stats, and such that the more modern boards have.  It's annoying not to be able to glance up and see anything you would want to know.

That bugged me last night. Every time I looked up they only showed St John's stats. I had to check Twitter to see how many rebounds Heldt had.

Daktronics is a great company.  It is in Brookings, SD which is home to South Dakota State.  It was founded by some SDSU alums and they hire a bunch of engineer grads from the university.  They started with high school scoreboards and now compete directly with the likes of Sony in the scoreboard/display board field.  I did my undergrad at SDSU and in the summers i worked for a construction company that built their annual addition to the mfg plant.  Their IPO in the early 1990s happened when I was in a finance class so we used it as a case study.

Was just at Allstate for the MU game. I like it better than the BC because you are much closer to the floor. No need to look at a video board.

Again, maybe I'm in the minority, but I just don't care. I barely look at it. I'm watching the floor. I'm recording everything on my DVR if I want to see a replay of something.

I guess that there are advantages to having the worst record in men's basketball since the formation of the new league.

I agree with that, but the smaller, crappier ones don't.  I was responding to your point, which was that the scoreboard/video screen doesn't matter if your seats are good. I was telling why it matters to me.

But if it is important to you to be right about everything, I will get out of your way.

Will the BE let MU show replays of questionable foul calls?  I doubt it.  Will the score board operator update the stats timely...

Within 10 years, home tech will exceed the in game experience with VR, and game attendance will drop if they don't start making being at the arena a better experience.  They showed some replays last night, not so much on Saturday.

This. Also curious as to why they went away from the wide-screen platform. Regardless, I am super-jacked for the new stadium and it will certainly be a positive for recruiting.

If we had an on-campus arena, I'd be really really curious if the administration would allow alcohol sales. It would kill their bottom line, but I could see them cutting off their nose to spite their face

Maybe I'm in the minority but the size of a video/score board does not do much for me. The current one at the BC seems just fine to me.

When they tell you that its not the size of the videoboard but how you use it, they are usually lying.

Whoever suggested the VR thing wasn't kidding...my son has the Samsung one and I've seen a live event. Not perfect but if they can hang the cameras without interfering with play, that will be cool. They've got to make money on it though.

But of course you can't beat being there with a full house and a great win!
