82, I also love me some Bojack Horseman. Funny in a lot of different ways and some quality cultural commentary as well. Their episode on gun control had me rolling on the floor laughing.

If you thought the first episode of Big Mouth was over the top vulgar, buckle your seatbelts, you've only reached the tip of the iceberg. There's a scene with Garrison Keillor that is particularly terrible/awesome and oddly timely. I don't like vulgar humor for the sake of vulgar humor. But if its used smartly I love it. Big Mouth uses it smartly...most of the time.

If this is really how the mind of a teen-age boy works, I don't need to know.

It kinda is ... except they're understating it a little bit.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but I've heard Black Mirror is fantastic.

Glow jr. flipped on Big Mouth a couple of weeks ago when we were watching TV together.  Normally I don't feel uncomfortable watching R-rated stuff in the same room with him, but this was a little much.  If this is really how the mind of a teen-age boy works, I don't need to know.

You really don't want to know how the mind of a teen-aged boy works. And by teen-aged, I mean 13 - 35.

You might even be shocked how the brain of a gentleman like Big Glow worked back in the day. (Or maybe not.)   ;D

Loved that you can come back to it and don't have to watch it all at once.  Some were weaker than others, but the 1st episode is the one I remember best.

Dark - 3 episodes in and I'm finally getting use to the out-of-sync subtitles and voice over work.  Interesting.  If you liked Stranger Things and the Returned (not the US remake), should be good.

Its my favorite show, but I am not the biggest fan of this season as a whole.  There are a few bright spots, but I feel like Trey is starting to get tired.

Just finished Ozark Season 1.

Better than I thought it would be. I preferred it to Bloodline, which has a similar dark tone.

Looking forward to seeing how they handle Season 2.

I know it's technically not TV (more likely made for TV movie) but since it's Netflix I'm going to count it....Anyone else excited to see Bright when it comes out just before Christmas? All the trailers seem to indicate it's a return to peak Will Smith (Men in Black era) which I'm all for.

Finished Ozark yesterday - I enjoyed it. I haven't watched Bloodline yet.

In terms of the Marvel seasons, I'm on Luke Cage now.  I've read that Iron Fist is not very good. Is watching Iron Fist vital before starting the Defenders in terms of plot and storylines or is it safe to skip?

I'd watch it. You'd miss major parts of the plot. Iron Fist is the worst of the seasons, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as some people make it out to be.

I'm working my way throw the Arrowverse (Arrow, The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl). Never watched any of them and I found a suggested viewing order on IMDB. It's decent so far. I like Arrow a lot, the Flash is hit or miss...side characters are solid but I don't like the lead and they seem to make up rules about his superpowers as they go. DC's Legends of Tomorrow has an interesting cast of characters and a classic but I believe untested premise. The entire show is basically exploring the question "If you could go back in time and kill baby Hitler, would you?" I just got to the part where Supergirl episodes start entering the rotation. Not loving it so far...like the Flash they seem to make up rules about her superpowers as they go but the supporting characters aren't as strong as the Flash's are. Dean Cain as Supergirl's dad is a nice touch though. The shows reference each other a lot with being overdependent on each other.

+1

It's very uncomfortable, but compelling because it's so uncomfortable. And I can't binge watch it for that reason.

As for Big Mouth, I tried watching for 10 minutes and couldn't stick with it. I lived through adolescent boyhood once, thanks. Also a reminder that - as a new parent - to cherish my newborn son before he becomes an idiot throughout the 2nd decade of his life.

American Vandal is just fantastic.  One of the funniest things I have seen in years.

Finally got around to this one.  By the 5th episode, you’re so sucked in that you can forget it’s a mockumentary.  Very well done.  And hilarious.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

My wife and I keep trying to watch The Man In The High Castle on Amazon Prime. We're through 7 episodes.

We like the premise of the show, and the imagery is really stunning: a swastika in the corner of the flag, Japanese names on what used to be U.S. government buildings, everybody greeting each other with "Heil Hitler." all the young kids in the Hitler youth, etc.

But once you get past the imagery, the plot just drags and drags and drags. I swear, I could edit each episode down to 25 minutes.

This is why we end up going a month or more between episodes while we watch other stuff.

Maybe American Vandal next!

Never watched Man in the High Castle.  Premise sounds great but have only heard negative reviews from friends.  My favorite review was a fridge who said it was MAGA porn.

Try Godless on Netflix.

No pun intended.  ;) One of the better Westerns I've seen in a while.

I made it through Man in the High Castle but my wife quit on me halfway through the 1st season.

Thanks. Godless does look interesting.

My wife only made it through one episode of Westworld, and I'm not exactly flying through the season, either. Not that Godless and Westworld are related or anything.

Echoing 82 a bit, I gave it a shot, had to quit on it. At the end of the day, its just a bad show shoehorned into a super cool premise. Not to get all avclub, my intuition is that it was just too ambitious for what Amazon was willing to put into it. To pull that show off, you need the budget to Nazify classic American imagery in a way that never stops stunning you, but also isn't the focus of the show. That takes a ton of $$, and you haven't even gotten to the writing, plot, acting, etc. There's a reason most of HBO's historical dramas (Rome, Deadwood) had short runs, and its not because they weren't good shows. Its just because the whole damn thing gets too expensive. Hell, FX got six seasons out of having Olyphant play the same damn character after Deadwood ended.

After working hard to get through the 1st season of Man in the High Castle, the 2nd season was actually decent.

Legs, agree with everything you said. That season finale was the most dramatic/intense hour of television I have ever watched....and I loved it

Just finished Ozark, wow.
