The Spirit Shop itself has its own website separate from the Fanatics online store that most colleges run through.  The Spirit Shop website has what is actually in the store.  The other does not.

huh, never knew that...thanks

I seem to find the 'Motion W' everywhere I look in Chicago. Sure, their student body/alumni base is considerably larger, but I'd also argue that UW's branding is far superior to MU's. Maybe that's due to resource allocation?

You can buy UW spirit wear on any website that sells college clothing (including Victoria's Secret). There are only about 50-75 universities for which this is true.  You are never going to get that kind of market saturation for a school that has less than 20% of the alumni base UW has (not even including the folks that glom on because they went to Parkside, etc.), as well as no football program.  If you have 50K+ season ticket holders to outfit every season, you are going to sell more stuff.

Given the limited market for Marquette gear, I think the selection is great. They carry every major brand  -Nike, Under Armour, Cutter and Buck, etc. If anything, I wish they would sell a few more non-label things, because I might think about buying my nephew in Colorado a $25 hoodie on a lark, but I would hesitate on dropping $75.  And while you might complain that their selection is "boring", the buyers have to make sure they can sell at least a minimum order.  If a buyer at the spirit shop takes a risk and buys 100 unusual hoodies that don't sell, that is a significant hit.  Not so much over at UW.

Can you give me an example of what you think is a good item that MU doesn't sell?  Also, when was the last time you were actually in the Spirit Shop?

Again, I don't think people here have seen a lot of other spirit shops. It's is pretty good by comparison

Plus, the UW Spirit Shop has way more locations than we do!

I've physically set foot in the Spirit Shop at least once a year for the last 14 years.

I can even refer to Spirit Shop offerings of years past, including the powder blue National Championship 30th anniversary tee and D Wade navy blue jersey tee.

Having worked for four different universities and visited dozens more (I always buy a souvenir in my first trip) this is universally true about all spirit shops.

This is also universally true. Except the bit about zip up hoodies, that I have no idea about

Universal??

If you ever get to Boston check out the Harvard Coop. The breadth, depth, and quality of merchandise is staggering.

And in Ann Arbor the Michigan machine generates more revenue off of its brand than a banana republic does in a decade.

Whether apparel, or for automotive or home, there are schools who know how to capitalize on the brand.

Marquette is neither Harvard nor Michigan on a number of levels.

It's no big deal to have 500 different t-shirts if you sell 200,000 of them a year.

Have some patience, FFS.

Must I really explain that by universal I meant a vast majority, not actually 100%?

Since we have gotten as specific as dissecting the breadth of the zip up hoodie selection, I'll admit now that I am just waiting for one particular item from the Spirit Shop.

Those were both give a ways at game. The 30th anniversary was the 2007 Pitt game. The wade shirseys was, I think, the 2006 Georgetown game. They may have sold those too, but they were definitely free at the game.

I'm going to echo some of Pete's sentiments regarding the Spirit Shop. First, the apparel available on campus pales in comparison to what you can get online. Second, the prices at the official Marquette website are often not as good as you'll find on other sites, even though it's pretty clear (when you check multiple sites) they are using the same distributor. Third, it's really, really tough to find a nice looking zip up hoodie. I mean...really difficult. The zip-up selection is downright awful. I can only imagine that other people looking for specific things find similar difficulties.

Is it better than it once was? Sure. But when I can't find a single gold zip-up hoodie in the Shop or on the Internet, that's just silly. They could still use a lot of work improving their stock and options.

Really? I was looking for one last year, walked in, found a great one that I wear all the time, and walked out. Also had the zip up hoodie warmups from 2011-12, I lost it but that was probably my favorite Marquette apparel that I owned.

And? So, the complimentary giveaways were (IMO) among the most coveted items in recent memory... much more so than what is being sold in the Spirit Shop.

Whoever designed those shirts is sorely missed.

That's a shame. If it's any consolation, I'm still getting plenty of use and enjoyment out of mine.

You said you've been in the Spirit Store and mentioned two items where there's a pretty good chance they were never actually sold in the store...

Spirit Store is fine.  I wish they had more MU centric items.  Most of their stuff is made is made universally with the Marquette just stamped on.  I've thought they should make a shirt with the state of Wisconsin with the MU logo inside and a basketball where Milwaukee is.  They made a similar shirt to give out a soccer game this year.  I tweeted at the athletic department if we could buy them somewhere and heard nothing back.

It's amazing what winning does for a program, Scoop is trying to out Scoop itself 3 days after defeating the number 1 team in the country.

Either the spirit shop stopped selling the shirt or they sold out.  Don't see it on their site anymore.

Our spirit shop is great. I would like it if we did a redesign of the eagle logo so we had something a bit more iconic than that chicken hawk thing we have now, have the students vote on it etc.
