I own some ABBV stock, so at the next BoD meeting I'll put in a good word for you.

Together I bet we own 1/8,000,000th of the company.  Surely we can combine our influence to get a fellow alum in the door!   8-)

Going to this mini-conference may be a good way to talk to people that are in your direct area of research.

There is something to be said for a face to face meeting where you can sell yourself.

That's not a bad idea. I am actually submitting an abstract for the Cold Spring Harbor Ubiquitin meeting April 21-25.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out when I applied to AbbVie.  I had an on site interview at the end of march and today they extended me an offer!!!

should I live in WI or IL?

Wisconsin.

Illinois' tax and fiscal situation is a disaster.

If you live in Illinois, try Libertyville. Great community, great schools and good commuting distance to AbbVie and downtown.

By the way, it's especially nice to see MUers reaching out to MUers.

Depends. Do you prefer to live in a state being run into by Democrats or one being run into the ground by Republicans? Seriously though, I'd say Wisconsin. Illinois is a dumpster fire, whereas Wisconsin is more like a hot air balloon slowly deflating.

Congrats on the job! Best of luck.

I wonder if the mods would consider setting up a Networking section on Scoop separate from Superbar.  In the past, I have thought about starting a similar type of thread to help out glow jr., but it felt a little awkward.

I am sure most of us who are MU alums would bend over backwards to help a fellow grad find work.  I've worked in places where the hiring process is pretty informal, and I have always tried to use my Marquette contacts first whenever I have had an open position.

If Glow Jr is an ME Student PM me

WI is the easy answer, but there are nicer places in Illinois.

I would cringe at living east of I-94 in Kenosha or Racine. West of I-94 in Kenosha is probably your best bet, but you're living rather rural, if that's your thing.

Income tax savings in IL, FWIW.  Property tax will prolly reverse that benefit if you're buying.

I don't know. Property taxes on our $675k house in Chicago are under $8k. You don't get that in Milwaukee County.

Property taxes on mine are close to $15,000 and mine isn't worth what your's is.

And I live closer to AbbVie.

Wait until Michael Madigan gets through with the tax situation in Illinois. We'll have the highest income tax to go with the highest property and sales tax in the nation.

That's it for that size house?  That's cheap.

Congrats!

Definitely live in Wisconsin. Illinois' finances are a mess.. A huge unfunded pension liability, they have sold many of their long term assets to pay short term bills, and the graft and corruption among the politicians is unequaled among the 50 states. Glow and I are getting out of there at our first opportunity.
Have some patience, FFS.

Thanks, PBR, but Glow Jr. was a digital media major. He actually took a great 1-year opportunity as a team leader with FEMA Corp, which grew out of his volunteer work with Marquette's Mardi Gras program. His passion for  service was second only to filmmaking, and he is doing great.
Have some patience, FFS.

Congrats! And look at Twin Lakes, WI to live. Unless you are young and single.

How old are you? Do you have family?
