The SI jinx has been obvious for years. The first issue I ever got had a race car driver on it, I think perhaps Hispanic. I don't have to tell you what happened to him.

One of the first "Man of the Year" winners after I subscribed was Ken Venturi. Not long after winning, he developed a circulatory problem in his hands and his career was sabotaged.
