I never noticed before but they have Hauser and Cohen at the same height and Houser with 10 pounds on Sandy - I know Sandy isn't exactly a marquee 'body' for a big east wing player - but he did do a good job getting bigger and stronger from year one to two - Looking at a brief individual workout video on MU Instagram, Hauser is definitely as tall (if not taller) AND as cut/bulky as Cohen.....and Hauser's a frosh......and reputed to be one of the best shooters in his class.   I know expectations for incoming frosh are usually unwarranted, and our history with Juan, JJJ, and others in year 1 will have most people assuming he won't do much.....but....my eye tells me he looks downright ready.

If Sam can defend multiple positions, rebound and hit the open 3 (in that order), I suspect he'll have a place in the rotation more games than not.

Your first item is why I'm skeptical that Hauser will make a huge impact on day one. I think he'll contribute but we should know by now that freshmen with rare exceptions just can't compete on the defensive end out of the gate. Given our size issues, I think he gets 10 min a game early and builds into 15-20 a game by season end.

With Wojo apparently sold on a three-guard lineup this year, Hauser is definitely going to get every opportunity to play if he is as "ready" as everyone concurs he is.  The only wildcard seems to be whether his legs are at 100%... shin splints are always a reason for concern with me (having gone through them myself at his age) though being around a professional training staff is the best cure.

Honestly, I wouldn't necessarily peg him for the starting lineup against Vandy, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Jakubowski calling his name with 20:00 on the clock by the time the 2k Classic is over.  I don't necessarily think he's going to steal time from Sandy... when a kid with his skill set happens to be - aside from the 5's - the tallest on the team, he's going to play regardless of what class he's in.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Sam did a nice job in the weight room after his season ended. Came in stronger than expected, with room to build.

That's the big question. Steve Novak played 15.5 mpg during his freshman — primarily for his 50.5% 3-point shooting (and an effective FG% of 71.1%!), not his defense. But expecting the same offensive contribution from Sam simply isn't realistic.

My guess is that 10 mpg is optimistic. Deonte Burton averaged 12.6 mpg his freshman year — on a 17-15 team where our starting five included Derrick Wilson and Jake Thomas. With a lot more talent around him, Sam will need to prove himself to crack the rotation.

But how does he do it???......is it a Sssssssaammmmyyy Howsa or more like a Samm Housser!?

Hauser will be a very effective player for MU by the end of the season.  He has an excellent set of skills and it is just a matter of the adjusting to the college pace of play.

Still a believer in Chief Cohen's ability to be a great contributor to this team.

Career 34% three point shooter, so the ability is there.

It's just that 27% in Big East games that he needs to iron out.

Having more outside options can only help Sandy. He may have less playing time, and take less shots, but his efficiency should benefit from better floor spacing.

I am not saying he cannot do what you are saying, but history shows that a lot of young players hit a wall when the get to the Big East conference games. Cohen is a perfect example of this.

GGGG

Cohen will never be a primary offensive player.  The way he can help this team is on the defensive side of the ball.  If he can become one of those BE "junkyard dog" types, that's where he will earn his playing time.

Still looks like our guys can't jump.

I dunno why but I love watching the practice highlights. Probably the coaches son in me. Passed some of my favorite drills along too.

To your point, I believe he will definitely have challenges the first time around the league but make some progress the second time around. So by the end he can make some definite contribution . The kid has excellent fundamentals .

Yes he does. You won't have to worry about him trying to do to much. Very unselfish kid who lets the game come to him.

I think he will have a role to play this season.

In the other video on twitter, Luke looked absolutely massive. Definitely put on a few pounds of muscle.

Hauser is definitely taller.  You can tell he really put the work in on his body with strength and conditioning.  Fantastic shooter.  To me, he players taller then he is.  Level headed.  Coach's son.

I'm hoping Sandy comes around.  I hear people keep talking about putting on strength and weight.  I doubt the weight will ever be close to Hauser's frame.  Is he Juan Anderson 2.0?

Hauser's shooting will open up much more offensive opportunity compared to someone like Sandy.

Hauser is a freshman on a team with lots of guys who can score. His playing time will be solely based on how he plays defense and rebounds. I would expect no more than 10-12 minutes a game at most once BE play begins.

So if he gets into a game and hits a couple of 3s right off the bat, he won't get to play more?
